Smoke coming from tub
SOURCE: Strong meldew smell from washer
Clean out the drain filter. mine had one of my kids socks stuck in it. Any small item could get clogged, it is best to use a laundry bag for those items.

Check to make sure that the filters in the water valves are not clogged up. Go behind the machine, turn off the water supply and disconnect the hoses on the machine side. Look inside the water valves and check the filter screens to make sure they're clean. Get a large bucket and open the water valve to clear out the hoses and make sure you have good water flow coming out of the hoses. If both of those situations are cleared up, your machine should work properly.

While looking for the fuse, which I could not find despite opening up the machine from the back (and vacuuming underneath--yuck!), I left the washer unplugged for about 30 min. From reading other forums and such, I realized that unplugging for a little while is often the solution because the prolonged (at least 5 min) lack of power triggers the system to reset. Sure enough, when I went back to plug it in and give up for the night, the thing worked fine. Good luck to anyone else out there!

Same thing happened to me
I freaked out
Then I emptied the water basin, on the front of the machine near the bottom. then it started up and worked
SOURCE: my washer won,t drain how hard is it to replace
Open the little door in the bottom left hand corner, unscrew the black cap and drain the water out.
If this doesn't fix the problem, you may need a new Drain pump. Unplug
the machine. Remove the filter recess by removing the one screw inside
and using a putty knife at the left and / or right edge and popping it
out. Pull the machine out about 18 inches and tip it back, resting it
against the wall. Remove two more screws behind where the recess was
holding the pump housing on. Reach under the machine and remove pump.
There is a tab to depress under the pump housing to release it from the
base. The pump motor is held onto the housing by three screws. Remove
them and inspect the impeller to see if it has come off the shaft. If
it has, pushing it back on will not solve the problem, as it will come
off again. Install new drain pump and reassemble.
