Tappan forced air furnace using propane gas and noticed liquid made hole in metal plate that above the blower below, hence leaking through to my basement floor. Also, I see the hoses drain at the opposite side of my furnace near the floor drain. This leak created a hole above the blower compartment. I need manual and or trouble shooting tips with a schematic view possibly. my Tappan Furnace aobut 11 years old. model # not sure 9003047F or FGA010511573 or FG6RC 100C-16B Thanks for any help

Your furnace is more than 90% efficient and extracting so much heat from the gas that it condenses instead of blowing out steam. This is good! Figure that for every dollar you spend on fuel, you are getting back 90+ cents back in heat. Compare that to the typical units that only get 70 - 80 cents back in heat.

Yes you should drain your condensate to a proper drain via gravity or a condensation pump. I would recommend you treat the condensate first with a acid neutralizer prior to draining in municipal drains due to it's high content of sulfuric acid. You can purchase these filter type neutralizers on the net or at a good heating wholesaler.

Yes you can use regular pvc glue. You should use pvc primer before you glue it.

Based on your description I would guess that there is a "leak" somewhere between the gas valve and the actual fire. Use soap bubbles to check the connections at the gas valve. Also check the gaskets in the Gas valve the same way. Lastly there may be a cracked or misaligned burner causing the "leak". Best of Luck!

Consider a variable output system like a Carrier 58MXA or an American Standard AUX unit. This way the unit will ramp up or down based upon the heat required. These units have two or three Btu outputs so they will modulate to find the right range. Yes they will cost more than the Goodman units but will save you gas dollars for many years to come. Goodman is a good Builders unit but look to fuel economy as prices of fuel increases. Right now your furnace is is using 60 Btu's per square foot. Are you located in Alaska? Here in Vermont if we figure 30 Btu's per square foot, that is one very drafty home. Ask to see their Manual J heat loss. If they say "What" time to move on to another heating contractor.

I have a forced air gas furnace and water is leaking from just above the area where the hose is attached. I removed the cover but cannot figure this out. It only leaks (a lot of water) when the furnace is running. Please help asap!!! Tthanks so much, Dianne
