Sony model # KDF-60xs955 with blinking red code

The code is blinking 6 red, does that always mean its the thermal fuse or is it possible that it can be the G1 board part # A-1060-177-a?? I see both issues as being a common problem area for this particular Sony. Please help, I need to save thousands! I would like to do the repairs myself as well.

The screen never powers up, fans do not turn on and the only activity going on is the three green blinks followed by a succession of 6 red. Has anyone heard of the Thermal Fuse $5 to $10 dollar part being a common problem linked to the 6 red code? How about the G1 board being replaced as a whole being a common problem linked to that particular code? I thought I had it minimized to those two options... Thanks for any advise it is all helpull information!

So, if the G1 board or Thermal Fuse are part of or connected to a circuit board on hotside then it is very likely that these common problems can be repaired by simply replaceing the whole G1 board? Would you happen to know where I can find this circuit board specificaly as far as location on the TV exactly?

Thank you techman for the good info, I opened it up once before as the screw that holds the lamp door was loose and had to be secured properly, but this procedure is more complicated. I would greatly appreciate if you could help with the service manuel as it would narrow down the search for the exact location on this units problem area. Thanks again for replying.

Does anyone know the procedure to testing this G1 board? Service manual? What does it look like and does the TV need major adjustments to be made after the procedure is complete? I would like to do the complete repair myself, even if I have to do some sodering. I would rather get the whole G-1 board if that would keep the problem from happening again. I would like this to be the final fix with this particular issue at least! I keep seeing postings with different symptoms and that looks bad on Sony Wega TVs.

you can send it to [email protected]. Thanks again. I don't have any experience working with boards, but I have friends that can guide me and I do have a multimeter.

The 6 flash error could very well be the G1 board, but you will need to test the DD 6 volts on the board first. I have a service manual if you need it, and know how to do this.

I need an e-mail address to send you the service manual. Also how much experience do you have working on prited circuit boards and using a multimeter?

Tv will come on but shuts itself back off

Sounds like it just needs a new lamp.
The way to tell is the lights in front:
green blinking as TV reboots = bad lamp
red three blinks = door switch
red four blinks = bad fan
6 or 9 blinks = bad thermal fuse

6 blinking red lights

You still have your guessed problem. 6 blinks means Low B+ error (power supply). This can be caused by an open thermal fuse, loading by another circuit board, or the power supply itself.

It's in standby mode.

Do a reset and see what happens

While holding down the reset button on the remote
Press the power button on the tv
(The tv will turn itself off the back on)
Now release the reset button

It sounds like the lamp needs replaced.

Please help-question about sony optical blocks

Talk to Sony about the blue blob issue, they may still replace the optical block for free.

If not, fix the blinking light TV.

Blink Codes
3X - Lamp cover not installed correctly, usually after lamp change, or cover detect switch is bad.
4X - Check fans (one or more failed to pass RPM test during power on diagnostics)
5X - Lamp ballast (power supply)
6X - Usually the thermal fuse - usually from inadequate air flow (fans dusty)

All other codes usually require a trained technician to diagnose and repair.

Sony kdf-60xs955, rear projection tv

There is a Thermal fuse under the lamp housing that opens up and Sony has a New style fuse to replace it with, it opens up one of the p/s lines to set code 6, replace with new thermal fuse and test. You will want a Skilled Professional to replace this fuse as it does require some dissassembly and removal of light engine to remove fuse from under lamp housing to put new one on side of lamp housing.

What the @*#@*#

The 4 blink fault code means one of the fans is faulty or the H4 module in the TV.

Power button

Sorry, I have to say it. If the bulb (LED) is shot it would have to be zero flashes :-) It's my weird sense of humour. After that I hope you'll forgive me and someone can give you some real help.
