SOURCE: Kenmore 20722990 series 70 will not drain

I have the same problem right now. I found a dime in the discharge but it still does it. I am going at it from the front side of the pump now. I need disassembly instructions for the upper sections to get to it. It was really nasty dirty and stinks.

SOURCE: Kenmore series 70 washer will only fill with water.

I recently had this problem. It was found that the main drive belt broke and the washer would fill but not spin, agitate or drain. I replaced the belt and everything worked again. A defective or disconnected cover switch would also cause the same problem.

SOURCE: kenmore 70 series, 110 washer leaks water when

Hi, You will need to change the inlet mixer valve. It is sticking open just enough to allow water to drip through it. This should be chandes asap so that it doesn't get bad enough to over flow the washer.
Here are directions on how to remove the cabinet so you can get to the inlet valve.
Removing the cabinet. UNPLUG the washer. There are two screws holding the control panel to the cabinet. Most models the screw are in front but, some models have the screws in back. They are on each end. Now raise the control panel up and let it rest on the hinges. Unplug the lid switch harness and locate the clips on each side (bronze in color) and release them.
Now the cabinet will lift off the frame and you can set it aside.
Please let me know if this helps you or if I can assist you further.

Thanks
Vic

SOURCE: Kenmore series 70 model 110 82376810, timer know

Appliance parts places don't stock the timers because they hardly ever go bad. Troubleshoot first! .I am not a repair professional. I am a 78 year old man
who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. So the washer or dryer ID doesn't mean much to me. I came to fixya looking for a schematic for an really old AM/FM radio and found that more than 4,700 people were asking for help with a washer repair. I recently had a washer repair of my own and at that time I found an excellent video which showed me how to take my machine apart. This video made it possible for me to do my own repair. If you are repairing a dryer or a front load washer I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good step by step trouble shooting and repair information on washers and dryers as well as other appliances. If you have a direct drive top load washer and need help taking it apart this video is an early christmas present. I was so impressed with it that when I saw all these people needing help, I wanted to tell them about it. If you look at the back of your washer and the panel is solid (no small inspection plate to remove which would indicate you have a v-belt drive) chances are you have a direct drive and this video is just what you need. You can see it at www.acmehowto.com You will probably still need help in determining what the trouble is and how to fix it. After viewing the video or if you have a v-belt drive rather than a direct drive, I suggest you go to www.applianceaid.com where they have very good
trouble shooting and repair nformation on most
washers and dryers. I think you'll find what you need
there. Don't worry about the timer, they hardly ever
go bad. Good luck with it. If I have helped you, please rate my advice on fixya.

My Kenmore 70 series washer sounds like it has something stuck in it and makes a grinding and buzzing noise the agitator will barely move but the washer will drain but not spin

That could be the motor coupler. It could also be the transmission. It is pretty easy to fix. I recently worked on my brother's washer:

My kenmore model 20722990 series 70 goes through the entire cycle properly but as it spins down it vibrates as if it's unbalanced but it isn't. I have the cabinet off, the agitator and tub out and can't...

Check the vibration damper mounts and the springs under the tub.

Kenmore washer, elite 70 series is leaking water on floor

the hose from the drum to the pump, and from the pump to the drain, are at the front,
Movement of the drum during wash cycles, wears the short hose between drum and pump and it develops cracks, eventually a wash load of any size will finally cause one of the cracks to penetrate through the rubber, and constant drip occurs.
Its an easy fix, no more than screwdrivers needed.
the local parts guy will have the hose, even if it is labelled ge frididaire whirlpool the same hose is common to many makes and models

  • turn off water unplug washer
  • pop the endcaps off the control panel, and completely remove the phillips head screw under each endcap dec762a.jpg
  • lilft the control panel ~1inch and flip it over the back of the washer,
(do not dislodge the water level sensing hose or we'll be back to fix it later, hinges are plastic, dont bust em)
  • remove the two brass clips under the control panel
    (note position for reinstall)
  • remove lid switch connector
  • lift entire body up ~1 inch and remove forward
  • motor pump hoses gearbox are now exposed.
examine hose from drum to pump, and from pump to cabinet rear,
replace cracked and crazed hoses.
reassemble in reverse order

Kenmore Washing Machine 70 series

When this machine is not spinning, the water should still be able to drain, as the motor drives the pump on the same shaft as the coupler for the tranny. Set to the spin setting and depress the lid switch, if the water still does not drain, you may have something stuck in your pump, which would also lock the motor shaft and not allow it to spin or agitate. If the water does drain, check the motor coupler, which is located between the motor and transmission, if broken, the motor will run but there is no drive to the transmission. Hope this helps...
