Wont play dvd on pc

I use VLC media player both at home and at work. You can download it here:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Also, does it play anything at all? I.E. CD's, CD-ROM? If not chances are your dvd drive is shot. You can replace them rather cheap these days. I like to use the following site to check daily on cheap items:

www.spoofee.com

I hope this helps!

DVD player wont play DVD-R's

If the DVD is not dirty/scratched it might mean it has a stupid security thing that wont let you play "un-copyrighted" dvd.
There are ways around it but I think they are quite costly.

Wont play saying unknown disk

If the region setting is correct and won't even read a cleaning disc, there's not much you can do. Either the DVD drive or the Main board (aka MPEG board) is faulty and will have to get it repaired. I'm not sure about UK, but in Australia, Bush manufacturing warranty period for DVD players is 12 months.
