Are u sure u made the bootable memory properly? what is the bootable actually??? windows or linux??? most of the time the bootable can be accessed by pressing 'F10' key there u can choose the media.

check if there is any fashdrive or memory card plugged in.
if it shows that message it might mean your pc cant detect a bootable harddrive.
was it working before? was it dropped or bumped maybe the harddrive got loose.
at the bootup screen do you see your harddrive?
if your pc can still detect your harddrive try installing a fresh copy or your operating system.

Power down completely and then remove the memory stick. Wait a full 30 to 60 seconds with power off. Power up to start boot process. Pay attention to the screen while booting to note any messages during this time. If the computer fails to boot still - check the drives (floppy, CD and DVD) to be sure none have disks inside - remove any if found. Attempt a warm reboot if possible - otherwise perform a cold / hardware reboot.
If still not booting, access the computer's BIOS and make sure the information on those pages are correct. If in doubt, set any unknown values to "default" or auto detect. Be sure that the bootable hard disk appears in the boot order somewhere - if not the set as the first bootable device.
Once booting successfully into the OS, insert the memory stick and attempt to read the contents. Many applications that ship on memory cards are not bootable - but yours may. Read the info supplied wit the memory card fully to be sure.
If unable to boot the computer, provide the manufacturer's name, model and your OS. Also include the name of the application on the memory card.

hard drive is faulty as it cannot be detected by the bios of your laptop. and/or your optical drive has no bootable cd in it. you may need to install a functioning hard drive with installed operating system for it to detect that the hard drive is bootable.
if you press enter or space when you have an item highlighted does it not give you the option to add the dvd / cd ?
On some bioses it is there its just that its been disabled as an extra boot device to speed things up so that its not always trying to read or find a cd to boot from so if you press the key it requests you to ( near the bottom of the screen when you are in the bootable devices section ) it will explain how to alter or add them. If you follow the instructions you should be able to add it as a bootable device
If its not detecting any discs in the drive whilst in the bios thats because you need to save the settings in the bios to boot from the cd / dvd and the disc ( cd or dvd ) has to be made bootable and then once the bootable disc is in the cd / dvd drive and you have saved the settings in the bios and restarted it should boot from the disc thats in there.
If you need to make a disc bootable you can either use nlite or you can get guides on how to make a disc bootable if you search google.
