Sublimation Printing is the most common printing method on mugs. By theory, sublimation is offset printing from a transfer paper to your substrate (which is your mug). Mug Coating is important since the coat is composed of Polyurethane paint which is where the Sub-Inks adhere into. Without a Polyurethane coat, the Sub-Inks will not stick to the surface of the mugs. What you can do in order to print on non-coated mugs is to coat those mugs yourself using Polyurethane paints that you can buy at hardware stores. These are usually used in automotive painting and may cause you a bit for each can.

You have to remember though that Polyurethane paints dries longer than enamels and prolonged exposure to these types of paints is hazardous to your health.

It would still be best for you to look for pre-coated mugs to save on production time and, well, efforts.

And yes, I have tried the above tricks personally as I am also engaged in crafts business...

I think You are using Cheap quality inks and not from genuine vendors. Always purchase inks from genuine vendors for Orignal inks. Some Generic inks manufacturer also provides quality inks in Cheap prices like Cheap printer ink

When you give a print command (ctrl + P) You have the possibility to select the Print Properties. If you press that button, there has to be somewhere a possibility to select the right kind of paper. I don't know which kind of printer you have. This works well with inkjet printers. The settings in your driver has to match the paper you use.
If you have a dye sublimation printer (there is no ink, but a ribbon with coloured dye) you need the right brand of paper, because otherwise your printer doesn't detect the paper.

Unfort don't have a solution but curious as to the ink you were using. Were you using OEM inks or dye sublimation ink from like Sawgrass ?

Hi, have you checked or changed the pint quality and paper type in printer propertys? have you changed paper brand or type? Are you printing now from other program ? I've this problem printing in Corel but not in Photoshop, I don't know why, its probably the color managment system (ICC)

Hi, I recommend getting a set of Epson ink, run through a few head cleans and repeat the head alignment a few times if required.
Sublimation ink is a lot thicker than normal ink, this means a typical dye based printer may struggle over time. Genuine ink contains anti coagulants which prevent the ink from drying and a cleaning solution within the ink. If this doesn't work you can try removing and soaking the print head in distilled water but I would only recommend this as a last resort and only if your confident in doing this.

what you want is not possible. the Epson Stylus Photo 1290 does not use sublimation ink. it is strongly advised to only use genuine Epson ink to keep the print quality of your print head as high as possible.
