Installer never installed the baffle support bracket. Just left it laying on top of the baffles. Now that we have tried to install it ourselves the baffles stick out in front of the top firebricks and the baffle support will not install flush against the front of both the firebricks and the baffles. The baffles overhang the firebricks by a few inches. Is it possible that the installer did not install the baffles correctly? Maybe upside down or backwards? Now the baffles form an upside down V where they join together in the center so I don't think they are correctly installed. Before we tried to put the baffle support bracket on we couldn't even see the fibre baffles and the firebricks rested on the top air tubes.

Make sure the pilot is turned to the ON position, otherwise you might have a broken thermopile which will need to be replaced as it controls the burner.

an open fireplace is not going to heat your house only 5 feet in front of the fire place. 75% of the heat goes out your chimney and burns the wood very fast. sorry to say but if you are looking for heat you installed the wrong unit!
