The camera to work, needs the driver to be installed,
and to run the camera, you need the software utility that enables you to use the camera for photos and video.

You can visit the manufacture's website, choose your laptop model, OS, look for Camera utility, and download it.
Generally, the driver and utility come in the same package.

Install the driver again or if it was running fine ,can restore.

I plugged the camera into my mac and used the disk utility on OSX to erase the internal memory of the camera. I am sure you could get / have a similar utility for windows.

Press the Capture button located on the Keyboard to launch the Camera Capture Utility to use the Camera.
You can also launch the Camera Capture Utility by clicking on Start, All Programs, Camera Capture Utility.

Install the Camera Driver, Sony Notebook Utilities and the VAIO Camera Capture Utility

Download the Sony Notebook Utilities

Download the VAIO Camera Capture Utility

I believe there are 2 modes of usb transfer that you can pick in the camera. They are set somewhere in the menu in the options. If you go through the menus thoroughly you'll find it. One option is for connecting the camera directly to a printer and the other is for computer transfer (there might also be an Auto setting but I don't remember for sure). Make sure that setting is set for computer transfer. If that doesn't fix your problem, re-install or update EOS Utility / ZoomBrowser.

I am not sure about this matter but it seems there is a problem with your new computer. it might not recognize the usb cable.
try to plug your camera in another USB port and try again.

1'st thing. You don't have an EOS camera so you won't be able to use EOS utility.

check on the canon website for updated software to install the utility

often new versions are released and are freely available to download off their site
look for your camera model and check the links to download

some new cameras sold today still dont have the applications shipped with the unit
the website is the best place for the latest versions

otherwise use a third party application to transfer the images
picasa by google does a good job too
