Our Amana freezer on the bottom refrigerator is keeping the freezer too cold and the frige not cold enough. Repair guy out last week and he thinks we need a new control board. (This would be second we've installed-unit is only 3 years old.) Is there a way to reset the control board or test it some how?
I used the 5X switch and it worked - the vents at the rear of the freezer defrosted and the refrig temp went back to normal. I wasn't sure if it needed to be reset to "run", so I did the 5X switch again. Did I just put it back into defrost or reset it to run? Could it have been a one time problem or will it freeze up again? I used the 5X switch and it worked - the vents at the rear of the freezer defrosted and the refrig temp went back to normal. Amana
version of adaptive defrost : Press
refrigerator light switch five times in six seconds to initiate defrost cycle.
Pressing five more times within six seconds will cancel defrost and go straight
into the run mode. Similar operation on both bottom mount and SxS refrigerators.
After the defrost terminator/thermostat opens, six minutes of dwell time occurs
before the compressor and condenser fan motor will operate. After defrost
terminator/thermostat open, 10 minutes of dwell time occurs before the
evaporator fan motor will operate.

check ur settings on the air flow control knob and the cold control knob? are they both set to high? are the door seals working ok no air leaks. is the fan running? l;astly check the thermistors?
Some of these brand friges have a tendency to not defrost the freezer side properly. Ice builds up behind the freezer panel thus reducing air flow to the frig side. Having replaced all parts repeatedly on my WP frig, actually two of them, and losing food repeatedly, a WP repair guy said it was unrepairable. WP is crap. Their design is crap. Many side by sides are littered with cooling problems. The defroster coil, defrost sensor, and thermostat just dont work properly. In the end, I bought a diff. brand and will never buy wp again. Keep in mind how many brands are sister brands to wp and avoid them too.
There is a door that allows the air from the freezer to cool the fridge side. Sometimes these are manual or mechanical. It may need stuck or repair depending on what you have. If you look in the back or or fridge at the top there is probably a opening for that air to go through. Maybe it is plugged from ice, you may have to look around if the freezer is on the bottom. It could be numerous problem. Rule out the most obvious first and go from there.
Sounds like the overload/relay is going out . If the noise is a " click " , replace the o/relay after checking the 3 terminals on compressor for continuity and each terminal to ground ( copper tubing ) .
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer
are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of
cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.
check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In
most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board.
If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

Sort of sounds like the adaptive defrost board is bad and you are not going into a defrost cycle. Do you have ice build up on the lower interior freezer section? Are the vent slots full of frost/ice? Ideally, pull the freezer shelfs out and take the little aluminum panel off the interior back to look at the coils. Are they basically a block of ice and frost? The problem happens when the unit doesn't go into defrost cycle and the coils freeze up. That blocks the air flow in the freezer so you get frozen food at the bottom but soft stuff at the top. And the frige just can't get enough cool/cold air from the freezer section to cool anymore. Power surges or blackouts, etc. can just destroy the defrost circuit board. Without good air flow the unit is not going to cool properly.
