A helpful hint for anybody that has to repair the power pin is after you repair the pin make sure you use a CRD (Cable Retention Device) to keep from causing the problem again. I use and recommend the JerkStopper. Even some Mac (MagSafe) Users are using it these days. We have three in use in our household (2 Fujitsu laptops and 1 Mac).

Hi I am a new guy here and someone helped me out. Now it's my turn. 2 years ago my Averatec 3200 power jack broke. I ebay searched an Averatec 3200 power board replacement. This replaces the little board the jack is mounted on and includes a very solid external screw down connector for about $50.00. It's the best power jack solution out there except for Apple's magnetic connector. This is the latest link. good luck.

Of course you can fix it.  The power jack on my Averatec 3200 laptop shattered as well.  You just need a new jack that fits the power supply connector, some thick stranded wire, and some basic soldering skills.

Unfortunately I was unable to find exactly the same jack they used, so I couldn't solder it straight into the motherboard like the old one.  It was also a pain to disassemble the laptop, keep all of your screws in a dish!

Once you get your laptop disassmbled:

  1. Take *careful* note of where each terminal (the inside pin and outside conductor of the jack) are soldered in on the motherboard first.  They're probably still soldered in, but the plastic case is broken.
  2. Desolder the pieces of the old jack and solder some stranded 12 AWG wire it's place.  Use wire that's between 2 - 4 inches long.
  3. Using black and red wire, solder the black wire to the location on the board where the outside conductor of the jack connected.  Solder the red wire to the location where the center pin conductor was connected.  Bring the wires out through the power jack hole and screw your laptop back together.
  4. Using a replacement jack that mates snug with your external power supply connector, solder the red wire to the inside pin conductor and the black wire to the outer conductor of your new jack.  Use some heat shrink sleeving or electrical tape to cover any exposed copper.
Be very careful to get the +/- polarity right with your wires, I don't know if they have polarity protection built in to the motherboard.  If they don't you could do some serious damage if the polarity is backwards.

This will look ghetto, but my laptop has run great for over a year since that fix (until it recently started overheating).  If you can manage to find the exact same power jack that they used, bringing wires out to a different shaped jack won't be necessary.

I'll be taking my laptop apart again soon, so if you need some pics let me know.

Good luck.

The socket that the charger plugs into has come loose from the control board. The only thing you can do is open it and resolder or send it in for repairs.

If the plug in the laptop is broke the only options you have are to have it fixed or to buy a universal docking station. The docking station will use your plug and will charge you laptop

Ds will not turn on

Okay, So according to your problem, you could try maybe to remove all possible outside connections ( DS cardtridge or GTA Cart) Then try actually changing the battery itself as maybe it is the battery problem, but thats all i can help to. : ) Hope you get them fixed soon. You could get them looked at at a NDS shop too

I dropped my laptop and now the battery will not charge.

Most likely its the DC Power Jack. Happened to me. You can find the part online by searching for "450ROG DC Jack" and then just resolder yourself or take it to a repair shop.
