Make this test and fix it. God bless you

  1. MagnetronIf your microwave is emanating high pitched or growling noises during operation, the magnetron could be going bad. Normally a nearly silent part, the magnetron uses high voltage and induces the frequency required to cook food. Although normally not a safety hazard to operate, this is a sign that the magnetron is failing and will need to be replaced as soon as possible.
  2. Exhaust fan motorIf your microwave is making a very loud humming noise during operation, it could possibly be the exhaust fan motor. If defective the part will need to be replaced to silence the appliance once more.
  3. Stirrer motorAnother leading cause of a noisy microwave is an expired stirrer motor. With use this part becomes worn and makes a loud grinding noise, which is usually a leading indicator that the part needs to be replaced. The stirrer is a metal blade that is slowly turned by the motor. This action disperses the microwave energy in a random pattern, which heats the food evenly. If the stirrer motor is determined to be nearing expiration, it should be replaced to halt the grinding noise.
  4. Turntable motorA very common cause for a noisy microwave is a worn out turntable motor. This is a relatively easy repair and will put an end to the noise once replaced.

SOURCE: Microwave buzzing

It's likely a bad magnetron or maybe the high-voltage transformer. If it's within the warranty period of the magnetron (5 years or less), I would call Sears. In my professional opinion, no one should work on a microwave unless they are fully informed and aware of the deadly hazards and necessary precautions. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

SOURCE: GE JES1358 1200 Watts Microwave oven that does not heat

There should be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, & testing.

dee77f7.jpg

At
our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

A loud buzz, hum, or groan is usually a shorted high voltage rectifier diode, but a sound like gurgling into an empty coffee mug is one symptom of a failed magnetron, and yet the mag can be bad without that sound.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for high voltage section test help, but read the safety warnings first:

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html
(if it is NOT shorted or burned looking, it's probably fine)

http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/mag_test.html
(continuity can be good even though mag is bad!)

You can find links to helpful exploded view diagrams and part ordering help here.

I'd recommend that your bookmark this link to your favorites.

Accessing some parts may require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the cover.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have

two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty G.E. will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832.

Be persistent. You may have to speak with a supervisor.

SOURCE: my whirlpool microwave run but is buzzing loudly & not heating. Will the reapir be costly?

It may be a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or magnetron.

Home visits typically run $75-90, repair labor will be $75-90 more, plus part costs and part markup.

Loud buzzing when microwave turned on then blows internal fuse.

That's usually a symptom of a component failure in the high voltage circuit; most often the high voltage rectifier. However, h v capacitors and magnetrons do occasionally short as well.

GE Microwave (JVM1860CD001) control board buzzes.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
Magnetron If the microwave is loud or noisy only when cooking, the magnetron tube might be defective. The magnetron uses high voltage, high current DC power to generate the microwave frequency that cooks the food. Under normal circumstances the magnetron is nearly silent. However if it is damaged or nearly burned out it can begin emitting high pitched or growling noises. It's not normally dangerous to use a microwave oven when it makes these noises, but they are an indication that the magnetron is almost dead and will need to be replaced.
Exhaust Fan Motor If the microwave is loud when running the fan motor might be
Stirrer Motor If the microwave is loud or noisy the stirrer motor might be worn out. The stirrer is a metal blade which slowly turns around, deflecting the microwave energy in a random pattern inside the microwave oven. As the motor nears the end of its useful life it begins to make grinding noises. The microwave will not heat food evenly without this stirrer, the motor should be replaced.
Turntable Motor If the microwave is loud or noisy the turntable motor might be worn out. This is a common problem and relatively easy to replace.

LOUD BUZZING NOISE AND THE ANSWER I RECEIVED WAS FOR A DIFFERENT MODEL. CAN I FIX IT MYSELF?

If the loud buzzing noise is present when cooking food, the magnetron is the likely cause, some models are louder than others. But if the buzzing noise is there without the microwave running it should be checked. No! this something that should be checked by a professional for safety.

Ge over range microwave runs but doesnt heat

If it does not heat and makes a loud buzzing sound, it usually means that the magnetron has failed. It the part that generatest the microwaves that heat the food. Replacement costs for magnetrons is almost as much as a new oven, so it rarely makes sense to fix. Sorry.

G.E. Spacemaker XL1800- Loud constant buzzing noise. Help

My microwave was totally dead. Things I discovered: 1) There is an easily replacable fuse accessed by taking off the top front vent cover (two screws on top, gently massage off) and then the inside plastic grill. UNPLUG before doing this! 2) Pop off two wires on either end of fuse holder for safety. Then pop out fuse and replace. For more extensive help, there is an evelope with a wiring diagram inside the case on the inside wall! Very helpful when diagnosing the surface lamp problem (I forgot to plug the ballast back in when I closed up the bottom).
