Hello, I recently bought a hp proliant dl380 g4 and was trying to install Redhat 6. I received an PXE-E61 stating: media test failed-check cable. I was wondering what my options were and how exactly could I check the cable. Thanks for any support
First, it's not booting from a CD or Hard Disk if you've reached that error. The 'last-ditch' effort to boot is to attempt a PXE boot from the network card, but your Ethernet cable isn't plugged in. Unless you know you've setup such a PXE boot server, you'll want to check the BIOS settings to be sure the CD-ROM is set to boot first, followed by the Hard Disc. Be sure you have Disc 1 of the Linux installation set in the CD-ROM Drive and reboot. If you don't get the install screen, you may have another issue (bad CD-ROM Drive, bad cable/controller, no power to CD-ROM, etc.)
Another note on the DL380, if there is a RAID controller, you'll need to setup the RAID before installing the OS. You'll want to make sure your hard drives are properly installed and aren't failed. The RAID configuration screen will verify the RAID status once it has been initialized, which will somewhat verify the drive status.

so DL380 G4 does support 64 bit OS :
There are no Setting in the BIOS as such . no special settings need to be changed.
lib32 is for 32-bit and lib64 is for 64-bit obviously, If you are using a 64bit OS and these folder doesnt show then installation did not happen properly.
It seems more of a OS CD Issue . Erase the HDDs again , configure raid . use a known good RHEL CD to install .
Hope This is Helpful.
Cheers :)

I have the same problem and have seen two possible options for resolution...try updating the NIC's firmware and it could be a motherboard problem that needs to be replaced by hp. If either of the options provides the solution, let me know. I'm in the midst of it. (I've tried updating the drivers, swapping network cables, even feeding the NIC a known connection that gives 1Gbps.)

SOURCE: HP DL380 G4 Video resolution
To increase the resolution on a DL380 G4 try this.
So here is what I have done.
- Download x64.zip file from ftp://ftp.supermicro.com/driver/VGA/ATI/RageXL/x64.zip
- Run/Expand the zip to same directory
- DO NOT run the setup file or you will get the error message,
"Setup will only run in Administrator mode. Setup is aborting"
- Launch Device Mgr
- Expand the Video Driver and update Standard Video Drive. Point to directory x64.
- The server will need to reboot
- Display settings can be raised from 1024x786(16bit) to 1280x1024(32bit)
Note: 1600x1200 (16bit) is available but does not work on mine. If you set it to this setting and the video does not come back, connect up a higher resolution monitor and set it back.
