Why does it say "Clean Door" during the self-cleaning procedure?

Never ever use the Self Clean feature. All it exists to do is to keep the makers in a steady stream of sales of spares. The temperature is 800 to 925'F. The parts can't handle it.

Try turning off at the breaker overnight to reset.

I have an older Roper by Whirlpool self cleaning oven. It does not have a door lock or timer. Do I just close the door and turn the oven to clean and it will indicate when the cycle is done?

Never ever use the features of a Self Cleaning Oven. We see the damage they do here on Fixya, and the worst is the door not unlocking, and the most expensive is when they fry the mainboard.

They all have a door interlock. If you were to open it when it was running, it would frizz your eyebrows!

Frigidaire GLEF378ASE range oven cuts off during self cleaning mode.

My advice is never to use the self cleaning feature. Each time you use it you are a little closer to breaking something, elements, fans, door latches and one poor man who had a burned / melted control board which was obsolete so he had to purchase a new range. We see it here all the time. It is a great way to sell spare parts. 800 to 1000'F is just too severe for the parts.

Self clean will not switch to oven temperature

About 6 times a week we see 'Self Clean' cycles that break ovens. Try removing the mains plug or turning off the breaker for an hour. If that doesn't fix it, you will need a service call on you mystery make appliance. It could be the thermostat burnt out or the control board frazzled.

Self Clean oven temperature is about 880 degrees Fahrenheit.
Self-Clean Ovens
The oven is cleaned by heat, at temperatures above normal cooking temperatures. During the cleaning cycle the oven is heated to about 880 degrees Fahrenheit (471° C.). At this temperature, food soils inside the oven decompose, leaving behind a small amount of ash.

Hotpoint SD97PI oven self cleaning funtion and grill not working

The oven temperature is regulated by a temperature sensor when placed in self clean the sensor is removed from the circuit and full power is applied to both the bake and broil elements causing an the temperature to exceed in some some models up to 1,000 F. I would recommend against using self clean for the simple fact that no oven cavity to this date has been designed to withstand that high of a temperature and therefore excess heat is passed upward resulting in damaged lock mechanisms, control boards, and other electronic components. The most common complaint I have had with built in ovens besides the element burning out, is the oven door locked shut. When I get to the house and I ask to tell me a little bit of whats going on the story always starts " well, I was using the self clean option" or some variation of the sort.

Have a GE Electric Cook Top oven with digital

Unplug the stove. plug back in and program a short clean cycle. If this does not fix it is eithe the selector switch or the electronic control. Verifying the switch contacts with a meter is the only way to be sure.

How to use self cleaning oven

  • When using the self-cleaning feature on your oven, the temperature within the oven rises to an extremely high temperature, usually around1000 degrees. The oven will remain at this temperature for a set periodof time, often from 1 to 3 hours.

  • Self-cleaning ovens differ from traditional ovens in that they require a timer to control the amount oftime that the self-cleaning feature operates. They also require extrathermostatic controls to control the extremely high temperatures.

  • While the mechanisms inside aself-cleaning oven are quite complex, the concept behind aself-cleaning oven is fairly straight forward. The extremely hightemperatures incinerate dirt and debris from your oven, thus cleaningit for future use.

  • Safety is very important when using yourself-cleaning feature. You must ensure that the oven door is completelyclosed while the self-cleaning cycle is running. 1000 degreetemperatures are obviously extremely dangerous. Self-cleaning ovenswill come equipped with a secure oven door latch for this reason.

  • The crucial door locking system isinitially engaged to signal that you are ready to use the self-cleaningfeature. When the oven reaches a certain temperature, the door locksystem will ensure that the oven door cannot be opened until the cycleis complete and the temperature has returned to a manageable level. The result is a clean oven without the use of harsh oven cleaners orabrasives.
