I have a persistent issue with the RTL8187B wireless NIC hamgs after a few hours of heavy use. The symptoms the network shows limited connectivity. When I shutdown, the machine hangs, requiring me to power down. Once it comes back, everything is fine.

The operating system is Windows Vista SP2.

I would think this is a software issue. Performance is just fine. It just crashes after a few hours.

The computer needs a new NIC. If you don't want hangs and lags. Buy a new one. You can still use that NIC but with the less load of course. The NIC maybe old and when electronics ages, the performance downgrade can be seen.

I see. Try going to xp, if it is possible. If the problem is still there, then the NIC is the problem.

Laptop toshiba can't find my wireless router realtek rtl8187b wireless 802.11b/g 54mbps usb 2.0 network adapter

Try checking your computer's driver. Right click on Computer. Go to Device Manager. The device drivers are listed in the device manager. Drivers are used to make your computer parts communicate with the operating system. If it has a problem, then the part won't work.

Check for your wireless driver - update it. If no go, then try turning off your wireless adapter in your computer and turn it on. Check = if no go. Try going to safe mode with networking.

To go to safe mode. Do the following:

1. Restart your computer. While it's starting or booting, keep tapping F8 until you see the options to go to safe mode with networking. Use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode with networking.

2. Let your computer start in safe mode. Check if wireless is working fine.

If you want to avoid this kind of problem in the future or if you want to make sure that your computer is running well, then install Radarsync.

I have a toshiba Equium L300 & it cannot connect to a wireless router. I have been advised that it is missing a ethernet/wireless driver. Please advise

From what I see about the Equium, the name Equium is in use in UK only. In other European & countries USA the name is Satellite. From the specs of the model you mentioned you DO have a onboard NIC. You might have to uninstall the driver that you have due to corruption and the operating system will install a generic driver for you to use. Or you can go to Toshiba if you’re in Europe
http://www.toshiba-europe.com locate support and you can download the driver there.

If you have a driver your probably not setting (configuring the router and your computer) the network up properly.

Networking Networking: Network adapter
Wireless LAN Supported: Yes
Wireless NIC: Realtek RTL8187B
Data Link Protocol: Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g
Compliant Standards: IEEE 802.11b, IEEE 802.11g, Wi-Fi CERTIFIED

Toshiba Satellite A205-S5804

Download the 8187b drivers from Realtek's site. You then need to go in and edit the .inf file to read like this:

;;****************************************************************************
;; IDs for 98SE/ME/2K/XP
;;****************************************************************************
[Realtek]
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8197&REV_0200
%RTL8187B.DeviceDesc% = RTL8187B.ndi, USB\VID_0BDA&PID_8189&REV_0200

After the edit, install as usual from the device manager.
