Western digital 320g elements portable won't work

I had that prob ages ago. I fixed by doing a quick format. By quick formatting your drive is not wiped.
Once quick formatted do not put anything on the drive and run software recovery software of some sort.

It is very likely you will have to purchase that software unfortunately.

There may be other courses of action, this one did work for me though. Do remember if you do this that if your drive contained 320g of data you will need 320g of space free elsewhere to recover to.

Have you used this HDD before?, it this is the first time?

Sometimes you have to install the WD Smartware Software. In the case of the 320G, which are the first HDD released, The computer should detect them automatically.

Try with another USB port. Do not use a USB multiport because it won't power the HD.

If it doesn't work on your computer, try it on another one. This way you can discard the possibility that the HDD is damaged.

Hello Klpook, Hi, 1. scan your PC with an antivirus software, if the action failed to work, 2. use another PC to check if your Hard drive is good. if the other PC failed to detect you hard drive. 3. Use Hard drive utilities, such as Disk manager for Western Digital to diagnose your HD. If by chance no positive work is done. Your drive is bad.

Yes I had the same problem with a hdd. Try to use Nokia charger to power it up separately or look for a usb cable with 2 plugs. At one end with one plug(the one that goes in the hard drive) and 2 plugs to connect them in the computer. It should work perfectly

Well if you are still inside the warranty period, you can claim for a replacement. Also check the drive with other PCs. Reply if you need more assistance

As far as I know there is not. But check out kenwoods website for firmware updates. I believe they only comeout for the indash's. I know the Pioneer usb headunits will play up to a 250gb hard drive.

check the drive on any other system.

may be last time you were using the drive and system carsh or improper shutdown this can cause the drive damage.

Also may be a virus format the disk and try it.
