Wiring a humidifier to a furnace

Replacing an old humidifier on the return duct of a Rheem furnace model rgph-10eamea with a new Honeywell HE240. First of all, what is the full recommended route of wiring needed? The old humidifer was wired into the furnace previously but I have a new plug-in transformer with the HE240; how can it be used to replace the old transformer already connected to the Rheem furnace control board? Thanks in advance. Barry

Does the transformer need to be in the circuit ? If not, are the connections to HUM and Neutral on the furnace control board? If the transformer is needed, can I simply plug in and connect it to the rest of the components? eg. Humidifier to humidastat to HUM; Neutral to transformer to humidifier.

According to Honeywell manual, installation can be on either main or return. Placement of exhaust and gas pipes do not permit anything other that replacing existing unit. Do you have an answer for my wiring concerns?

Hello, in order to turn your humidifier on with the furnace the 120 volts coming from your humidifer you must hook it up to a step down transformer, then the transformer will provide 24 volts to you humidistat and solenoid valve. So you need a wire from the HUM on your control board to transformer primary side and a wire from neutral on the board to primary side of transformer. Then you need low voltage wire from secondary side of transformer to humidistat from humidistat to humidifier.

Maybe the hose is blocked. Take the hose off the supply side, and blow into just enough to add pressure to it and see if that works.

What is the purpose of the sailswitch

The sail switch is in the cold air return it is wired in with the humidastat when your furnace goes on the air movement pushs the sail down inside the duct work that makes a contact the lets the 24volts to the humidastat. If the humidastat calls for moisture it turns on the humidifier but only when the blower on the furnace is on So in short it detects air movement

Honeywell HE260 leaks somewhere

Neither, even if the solenoid or humidistat stick, it should always drain properly. Is the unit mounted on the cold air return duct or the supply plenum? If it's mounted on the supply plenum, the water panel might be getting blown forward and spilling the water. High efficient furnaces also can leak water on the floor if its drain is restricted. If hum. is mounted on return duct make sure drain is clear by blowing through it. On Honeywell hum's I've seen the rubber hose from the solenoid valve to the distributor tray leak too, check the rubber 1/4" hose.
