My elna air electronic TSP makes a popping noise inside like there is something wrong with the wiring. I've tried taking the cover off at the top and bottom but I think it's at the back or end of the machine I need to see into
Could you describe when you hear the popping noise? is it during stitching as a blunt needle will definitely make a popping or squeaking sound. To get into your AE TSP, unplug from the power, then there are two screws on the top cover holding it down that need to be removed. You can then juggle the top cover around the handle and move it to the back giving you access to the inside.
Getting into the right side behind the flywheel is a bit more difficult and you need to be careful as there is an electronic panel there connected to the internals.
The TSP would be circa 1985-89; if it hasn't had a service in last five years, then maybe consider finding an Elna dealer and taking it in as if it is the electrical side panel, it should be repairable. If you are in USA, White Sewing Centre is the place to talk to, they carry many Swiss Elna spare parts still.

Cannot get top thread to catch and uplift bobbin thread, have changed bottom bobbin; think this may be shuttle problem. Need to get machine in to Polokwane in Limpopo Province to a repair center, cannot find a contact number of Elna there. Can you assist?

Wind the Bobbin
For the usual jobs, it is the best to use a medium sized thread.
2. Disengage the flywheel by unscrewing the coupling knob as far as it will go.
3. Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder, and push the bobbin winder to the right.
4. Pull out one of the spool pins and place the spool of thread on it.
5. Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension discs, as indicated.
6. Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by hand, in the direction indicated.
7. Wind the bobbin, at a medium speed by pressing lightly with a finger on the spool so as to stretch the thread better and thus fill the bobbin to a maximum. The full bobbin stops automatically.
8. Re-engage the flywheel by tightening the coupling knob.
9. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the bobbin winder by pushing the latter to the left.

SOURCE: should I oil my Elna 3005 sewing machine?
Many of the new models do not require oiling.
Check the maintenace section of the manual for cleaning the shuttle area. Sometimes lint can build up and cause the machine to get noisy.
If it has been over a year since the machine was serviced, it may be time for a proffesional tune-up.
