Red and Pink Dots on Samsung 46"

My Samsung 46" LCD has been occasionally showing red and pink dots randomly spread across the screen. When turning the TV off and then back on the problem is eliminated. The TV also has been having trouble powering on. Just a blank screen even though the blue indicator on the bottom is on. It takes 20-30 seconds to finally power on at times.

SOURCE: dots in picture (red, pink, etc.). Will generally

COUPLE THINGS: MAIN MODULE OR DISPLAY INTERFACE BOARD. YOU HAVE TO DETERMINE: IS THAT HEAT RELATED ISSUE.MEANS, WHEN IT ACTS UP, WAS SET JUST TURNED ON OR WORKED FOR A WHILE? ALSO, TRY NOT TO PLAY WITH POWER BUTTON. MUST POKE SET OPEN, FIRST AND RUN TV WITHOUT BACK OPEN.IF IT, STILL DOES IT, MIGHT NEED TO DO SOME EXPERIMENTATION: USE HAIR DRYER AND HEAT UP MAIN BOARD, WITH TUNER AND OTHER THINGS ON IT. SEE, IF THAT WILL CHANGE THE BEHAVIOR. ALSO, DON'T FORGET TO LOOK AT THE POWER SUPPLY BOARD, FOR BLOTATED CAPACITORS. SEE THE ONE(S), IMMEDIATELY REPLACE! NEXT, DO THE SAME TO DISPLAY CONTROLLER.LOCATED RIGHT ON DISPLAY, BURIED INSIDE OF METAL SHIELD.
LET ME KNOW, HOW IT GOES.
GOOD LUCK,

SOURCE: Samsung 46" pink dots

I had a problem with the TV going on and off several times before "warming up" and then having pink dots. I would have to reboot to get rid of the dots. I called 1-800-SAMSUNG and reported that I had problems with the capacitors. That is what was causing the problems - cheap capacitors and Samsung is aware that this has caused many TV's to malfunction. My set was not under warranty but Samsung sent a technician across two state lines to fix my TV. As long as the problem is the capacitors Samsung will cover this service call 100%. My TV is fine now. BTW - capacitors which are sold in Radio Shack are not expensive. Why Samsung chose to put the cheapest Korean capacitors in their expensive TVs is a mystery.
So if your TV need warming up and has pink dots on the screen - call 1-800 -SAMSUNG and tell them your capacitors are malfunctioning.

I have the exact think happening on my Samsung LN46A530 and it has just been 2 years since I bought it. There better be a cheap fix for this because a $2,000 product has to last a lot longer than 2 years.

I had a similar problem but mine was just red specks that showed up in dark scenes. I opened up my plasma and found the adjustment pots that are labeled Vsc, Vy. I then marked the factory default with a sharpie first. Then I lowered the Vy a little and my red specks disappeared. Now my tv looks awsome again like it was new.

Lines across screen breaking picture into 4 sections

Based on reported problems with Samsung LCD tvs, It is probably one of three problems:
Separation of layers of the LCD panel;
A defective LVDS cable connection;
A defective T-Con circuit board.
If light hand pressure on the affected area on the LCD panel changes the problem, its the defective panel. If not, manipulating the LVDS cable will reveal the cable defect. If not, coolant spray applied to the T-Con circuit board should reveal if it is defective by temporarily alleviating the problem. Dont remove the back cover if you dont know how to protect yourself from electrical shock hazards. There can be more than 1000 volts in the backlight inverter area.

Self- reboots at start-up, then shows picture but with pink dots.

Howdy,
It sounds like you have a Power Supply Board problem. The PSB is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM811, CM812, CM817 & CS806; 1000ufd 25volts. It is the board to the left and you notice that the four cap tops are swollen.
It is easy to replace get a stanard solder pencil and you are in business.

Thanks for using FIXA, BIG IRISH.
