I've got new body fat analyzer scale (Prevention SC 101pv). It displays weight, BMI, BIA, water % and something else. What does BIA value of 38% mean? I can't find the answer anywhere on the net... The other values are BMI=23.5%; water=46% and the other value=25% (it's either body fat or muscle %, I guess).
Thanks.
The BIA is bioelectric impedance analysis or your body fat. BIA is the method used to determine your body fat, it sends a small electric pulse through your body and using formulas that account for the time it takes for the pulse to travel through water, muscle and fat. Remeber that this measurement can be affected by different variables such as water if you have taken a shower or drank a glass of water before being measured so it is not always acurate. To obtain a more accurate measurement I reccomend using it first thing in the morning before showering or eating/drinking when there is less chance of variables. Please let me know if you need further help :) Have a great day!
The other measurement is muscle %. Please tell me exactly what scale says when you step on it... ie does it give you letters then the number, if so is it BMI 23, BIA 38, ect or does it just go through the list of numbers, I looked for a owners manual and can't find anything online. So i am kind of blind on this but know we can figure it out. Also when it gives you your bmi it says 23.5% or 23.5? BMI is a number not a %
Also just FYI may pertain to you or not but a woman who is "enhanced" will not get acurate readings using these devices, BMI and weight will be the only readings that are acurate.
I was refering to implants alot of woman have them and that would have explained the BIA being 38 which is high if it is the body fat. what does the manual say the BIA is? the last number sounds more like it would be your Body fat just by the number although you never know which is why we measure it, I know it is either one not both muscle and fat and the BIA is body fat or muscle just confused by the manual saying the last one is muscle/ fat. Sorry to keep having to go back and forth but i know we can figure this out just takes time and paitence sometimes I am continuing to look around to see if i can find anything.

I have looked and maybe you have the model number wrong the scale you are talking about 63700 Calando Quattrotronic scale is a simple digital scale and does not provide bmi, and hydration.
here is a link to the manual, http://www.leifheitusa.com/manual/63700.pdfit is in several languages including english as the company is european and sells to many countries. If you look english is there it is a very simple manual as the scale is only desinged to weight in either lbs or kgs nothing more. Sorry. If you would like a bmi chart you can get that here http://www.healthdiscovery.net/links/calculators/body_massindex_chart.htm and figure out your bmi based on height and weight in the chart.

If you go to the taylor websupport site you should find one there, check the model numer though as I dont see a 5552 there. Once you select the product and go to the product page, you will see a link to the manual for the scale on that page.

Here are the basic ERR messages and their meanings:
I got an ERR2 message and now the scale doesn’t work. What should I do?
The following reset procedure is used when the scale shows an err2, err, 0.0, inaccurate weight, or some other unusual error.
If the reset is successful, you should receive a weight right away. If you continue to receive one of the error messages above please call our Customer Service department or contact us via email. You can also try the reset procedure a 2nd time. Sometimes the reset procedure will work the second time.

Thank you for your reply. I know what BIA is and how it's measured. What I don't understand is the actual value - 38%, i.e. what exactly this % represents. Is it body fat%? I doubt it as it can not be that high. What else then? And also, would you know what the "other value of 25%" means on that scale? BMI and water % are quite clear, but 38% BIA and 25% of muscle or body fat? I wish the manufacturer provided a good explanation on what measurements the scale displays.
Thanks again.
You're right, BMI is just 23.5 without %. OK, when I step on it gives me the weight reading and then after several seconds it scrolls through all the readings. First BMI (the letters are on the left of the display and the numbers are on the right side of the display), which is 23.5; then BIA = 38%; water = 46% and the last one is 25% which the instruction sheet says muscle% / body fat. Is it the same value for muscle % and body fat? Seems strange... I'm not sure what "enhanced" means; pregnant? I'm not. I'm just a regular active (or trying to be :) middle-aged woman. I want to know my body fat % and I have a hard time finding the number on this scale.
:-) No implants, all natural :-)
There's no manual, just an instruction sheet on how to enter personal data and how to install the batteries. Oh, and a chart of healthy body fat %. That's about it. No explanations, no details. They say it measures the body fat, it's just not clear at all which one it is. I found it strange that they write "muscle % / body fat" as if you can switch the display to show one or the other. But there's no button to switch and no instructions either...
Thanks for trying to help me.
