The evaporator fan has become off balance and is vibrating
most likely the fan motor bearings have failed

  • Anonymous Mar 11, 2012

Wrong answer, Jim. Evaporator (freezer) fans are cheap shaded pole motors that become electrically unstable over the years due to poor harmonics inherent to their design. Most often the fan and the bearings are fine, but the worn out motor can kick up a fuss like a noisy jackhammer. Get the part number off the internet, and shop on Ebay for the best price.

Vegetables in crisper are frozen, as well as liquids in bottom 1/2 of fridge door. The fridge & freezer temp controls won't adjust to our settings. Also, we're getting ice, but no water will dispense.

The freezer cools the refrigerator, so you actually get very cold air passing from the freezer to the refrig. The air from the freezer enters the refrig on the top and falls to the bottom where it is drawn back into the freezer. The temperature of the refrig is regulated by a thermostat and a fan that runs when the thermostat calls for cooling. If the refrig thermostat is faulty and causes the fan to run more than it should, there will be a freezing problem in the refrig at the bottom because cold air falls and warm air rises. If the refrig is thermostat is calling for cooling constantly, this will take more cold air from the freezer than is normal. Your freezer temp might be higher than normal and the refrig will be colder then desired. If the fan from the freezer is running constantly I would suspect a bad refrig thermostat.

I have GE GSS22WPGT and there is a constant

you have condisation on your condensor fan and it is vibrating. when you defrosted the unit you melted all the ice in the freezer. once the unit got cold again you had the same problem. it happens when you open the freezer door. the only way to fix it is to repalvce the fan and fan motor, as well as the main board. this is a costly repair unless it is under warranty.

Kenmore Elite Trio makes creaking/groaning sounds

I have a Kenmore Elite Trio and the freezer was making a frog sound. I found the solution.

My model number is 596.75523400. The sound will stop when the freezer is opened. It will stop again when the freezer drawer is open and the light switch is pressed to turn off the light. The ice drawer was full but it had stopped making ice.

Here is the fix in less than 10 minutes using only a screwdriver.
  • Take out the two freezer baskets
  • Remove the freezer door from the two slide tracks.
  • Unplug the icemaker electric connection at the back wall. Depress the clips on the side of the plug and wiggle it loose.
  • There are 3 screws that attach the icemaker to the left freezer wall. Remove the lower screw and unscrew the top two about ½ way out.
  • Slide the icemaker up so the slots slip over the 2 screws.
  • Put the icemaker in the sink and run a bit of water on the frozen cubes until they fall out.
  • Take the screwdriver and check the water inlet hose/pipe for ice that obstructs the flow of water into the ice maker.
  • Re-mount using the 3 screws and plug in the electric connector. Make certain the water inlet tube is positioned thru the retaining hole before you remount the screws.
  • Replace freezer door and baskets.

Noisy air flow problem, I think

the GE refrig has a variable speed fan motor controlled by the mother board located on teh rear of you refrig. the noise your hearing is the fan speed ramping up and down. if this noise is constant its possible the contoller on the mother board is bad and the board needs to be replaced. hope this helps...
