Your motor has a thermal protection switch in it the reacts to an overheating condition. Once the motor cools enough it will turn back on. You may be able to have the motor rebuilt for about half the cost of new if it is not damaged to severely. Take it to a local electric motor repair shop for service. If it is damaged beyond repair, you can shop around for a new one. If you would like a quote, contact us at www.arrowpools.net with your pump model number and we can quote it.

SOURCE: I have a clicking noise coming from the new Hayward super pump.

Is the motor running? It will make an audible 'click' when it turns on and another as it slows to a stop once shut off. If it keeps doing it during the run time, you are likely not feeding it the correct voltage. Otherwise, one click at the start and end is normal.

If the motor is set for the correct voltage and the line voltage is ok, the motor is starting to fail and will need service at a local electric motor repair shop.

make sure the pump motor is set for 115 volts, it soumds like you have the motor set at the factory 230 v setting and are trying to run it on 115 v look on the motor label it will show you how to set the motor up for 115 v (if the breaker is wide 230 if its skinny like the ones that control your lights its 115v ..if you have ran it for awhile like this you may want to search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy w/ free testing, because you may have damaged the start capacitor about 20.00 or less fix.if not this can come back to haunt you later,,jay

Find out your model number on your pump by checking the hayward site, for the super pump the parts manual is http://www.hayward-pool.com/pdf/Parts%20Diagrams/Super-Pump.pdf
Once you figure out the part number for your super pump you can call a local pool and spa shop and they will order it, you can google the part number, buy it off amazon (personal choice), or call hayward at (908) 355-7995 (U.S.) to buy a replacement

Just wired Hayward super pump 1 hp and it ran great for maybe 1 minute. It then began making a series of clicking noises; but, I shut if off before worsening the problem...Please help anybody. What could...

better check the power coming into the pump. Is it 240 or 120?

Double check that you have the correct setting on the motor for whichever amount of power your feeding it.

Is it a brand new pump? If its brand new and you do in fact ave it wired correctly, id return it

99.9999% OF THE TIME its the bearings going bad, and need t be replaced asap.due to a bad shaft seal... search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy with free testing. should be around $75 to repair it if caught in time.. here in florida lizards, frogs, grass and snakes and the such get into the motor and you can get that grinding sound but it will soon fade, but can restrict airflow and make your motor run hot and fail prematurely.. so if the noise doesn't fade in say a hour or two.. have it checked .. here is how to remove most pump motors just click on this link.. hope it helps ya .. jay florida
