I want to connect a N8020, through WI-FI, to Internet. The router is a mobile 3g-router (Huawei)who work absolutely fantastic with everything I tried: phones, laptop computers, tablets, etc. This N8020 doesn't want to connect and remain in a loop with text "obtaining IP address". This when I tried with DHCP. With static IP, connect immediately, but doesn't have Internet access. I use every possible security mode, every type of encryption and all kind of wifi (a/b/g/n). Hard Reset to tablet and router. NOTHING. Any idea to apply? Thank you in advance.
Thank you for your advice. After some checking, I can say the following: there are plenty of IP's (in fact, only 5, but there are busy only 2); there is no MAC filter set in router; I tried with no WEP/WPA security/encription, but still doesn't work; I didn't change the SSID as soon as other devices work fine with this one (has no special character of other strange things); anyway, today I give back the tablet to the store, for checking. I'll see their answer about this. Thank you again.Thank you for your advice. May I suggest to temporarily have no wep/wpa set at all, go for open and see if that works for the tablet. If not, try changing the SSID of your wireless network. Also, there may be insufficient IP's in the DHCP pool. Or, maybe a MAC filter is set.

To reset the password on your Huawei router, you can follow these general steps:
Access the Router Settings:
Connect your computer or mobile device to the Huawei router via Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable.
Open a web browser and enter the default IP address of the router in the address bar. The default IP address for Huawei routers is often "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1". If these addresses don't work, you can check the router's documentation or look for the default IP address on the router itself.
Press Enter to access the router's login page.
Log in to the Router's Configuration Page:
On the login page, enter the username and password. The default login credentials are usually provided on the router or in the documentation. Common default usernames and passwords for Huawei routers are "admin" for both the username and password fields.
Click on the Login or Sign In button to proceed.
Navigate to the Password Settings:
Once you are logged in, find the settings section related to Wi-Fi, Wireless, or Security.
Look for an option named "Password," "WPA Key," or "Pre-Shared Key" to change the Wi-Fi password.
If you want to change the router's administration password (used to access the router's settings page), look for an option like "System," "Administration," or "Management" settings.
Change the Password:
Enter your desired new password in the appropriate field.
Make sure to choose a strong and secure password that includes a combination of letters, numbers, and special characters.
Some routers may require you to re-enter the new password to confirm it.
Save the Changes:
After entering the new password, look for a "Save," "Apply," or "Submit" button to save the changes.
Click on the appropriate button to save the new password.
Test the New Password:
Disconnect any devices currently connected to the Wi-Fi network.
Reconnect the devices to the Wi-Fi network using the new password to ensure it is working correctly.
Turn on the Wi-Fi and connect to a network. Long press on the connected network and select Modify Network. On IP Settings drop down menu, select Static. Assign IP of your choice but leave other variable untouched.
When a malfunction arises the device fails to obtain an IP-address within the available network. Your device disconnects the network automatically, then tries to connect once more to obtain an IP-address again. The attempts don't stop. There are several reasons which cause the "Obtain IP Address" error.14 Oct 2017
IP Configuration Failure: Your router may be failing to assign a proper IP address. Usually, this issue can be solved by simply restarting the router. You might be in a poor network coverage area: Shift your device to the area where the network signal is good.
How to Fix Failed to Obtaining IP Address Error in Android
K Spare . Check network settings on TV . ip address
How does Tv get ip address?
. Do you have a DHCP server on your router ?
If yes then set the network setting on TV to obtain IP address Automatically.
If WI FI being used on TV then set up Encryption WEP or WPA encryption Key as well.
The free Wi Fi router may have run out of IP leases on its DHCP server just when you were trying to connect the tablet. If the leases are as an example say one week long then if lots of people connect to the free wi fi they get a lease for one week. So if the device comes back within the week it already has an IP address assigned to it and works. If a new device comes along it has to ask the DHCP server via the WI FI to assign it an IP address. If all available IP addresses are leased from the WI FI router the device will not get assigned an ip address. Would suggest trying to connect the Tablet on another Wi FI system to test it works.
I had this happen on my mobile phone when I was in Surfers Paradise in a Coffee shop and suspected the lease time on the WI FI router was too long for the amount of short term customers using the coffee shop. (the staff had no idea on why the Wi FI was not working so it would have been pointless to try and explain this concept to them and how to change the lease time on the dhcp server) Also there is a limit to the simultaneous number of users on a Wi Fi frequency on one access point . Unless the WI FI uses multiple WI FI access points.
To start you need to check you are entering the right password! The password is the one for the WiFi! Is it written on a card or on the router, it will be case sensitive!
Step one turn on PC directly connected to ModemsbSB6121 without Wi FI router being involved. Step two go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter) Step three note IP address of default gateway and ip address issued to P.C.
Step four type in default gateway address into browser and log into Modem. Step five look for DHCP Server and allocate IP addresses from at least 50 for example 192.168.0.50 starting ip lease ending ip lease 192.168.0.254
Step six connect Wi Router to P.C. via ethernet cable only - remove ModemSB6121
Step Seven shutdown and restart p.c
Step Eight go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter) Step Nine note IP address of default gateway and ip address issued to P.C. Step Ten type in default gateway address into browser and log into Wi Fi Router
Step Eleven Change IP address on Router to 2 as example 192.168.0.2. (it has to match in that modem device would have been 192,168.0.1)
(if it was 10.0.0.1 make wi fi 10.0.0.2 make sure subnet mask is the same like 255.255.255.0) Step twelve Change DHCP Server to off Step Thirteen may need to set default gateway to MODEM IP address for example 192.168.0.1 Step Fourteen plug modem router into Wi Fi router may need to plug into WAN port on WI FI router . Step Fifteen shutdown and Restart Computer Step Sixteen go to Command prompt type in ipconfig (press enter) Step Seventeen type in PING 192.168.0.1 (if this is modem IP address and default gateway IP addess)
All this above is to avoid IP address conflicts or mismatching
Subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0
either it uses 192.168.0.1 or it uses 10.0.0.1 make sure Wi FI router is set to different address to Modem Router.
I suspect either a clash occurs or your P.C gets a different IP range from ther WI FI DHCP server.
Happy troubleshooting !
How did you connect the computer to the router. If you are using a DSL modem it will have a DHCP server in it that is allocating IP addresses across your network. If you added the router to the computer via a hub or network switch what is the computers ip .
address. Remove the WI FI router - turn off P.C and then Go to cmd or dos prompt if windows based system and type in ipconfig and press enter to see if ip addresses are 10.0.0.2 if they are your dlink router uses 192.168.0.1 so you need to make the dlink router ip addressand subnet setting to match the Modem ip addresses of the DHCP server. Change the ip address of the dlink router to be 10.0.0.2 and change the modem to allocate DHCP IP addresses from 10.0.0.10 to 10.0.0.255. Only do this if IP addresses are 10,0,0,1 to 10.0.0.,254 on the desktop p.c with the dsl or cable modem connected.without the router being involved. (you may need to ask the ISP what the user name and password is of the modem and it should be ip address xx.xx.xx.1 so type this into a browser to change the modem settings. 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 just remember if the modem is 192.168.0.1 so is the Wi router from d-link and you will have an ip clash problem)
. How do you do this by ethernet connection from only the desktop directly with only the Wi FI . router. Go to a internet browser and type in the URL 192.168.0.1 and then change the router ip address to match what the DSL modem DHCP issues..
Page 14 of Router instructions see http://files.dlink.com.au/Products/DIR-615/Manuals/DIR-615_C2_Manual_v3.10.pdf
in the manual it states to use a direct ethernet connection for the setup program but you need to be connected to the internet for it to work but if the IP addresses are wrong or clashing will have no internet. You also want to set the modem as the DCHP server and disable the DHCP server in the set up of the wi fi tand set the WI FI router default gateway as the ip address of the Modem. if any DHCP server options in the WI FI router sert to the modem ip address. .
Assuming you're trying to connect via wireless router. If you connect, but then aren't able to get to the Internet. I would something is wrong between the router to the modem to the wall (DSL/Cable modem) rather then your tablet device. You can connect your device to your router and you device will show it has a wifi connection, but beyond the router something may be amiss. Try seeing what you get from another device like computer or laptop. That might get you closer to your actual issue,
what is the ip address of the cable modem ?
when connected directly to the modem can you do ipconfig in dos command window and find out the gateway ip address listed.
This has to be the gateway ip address in the wi fi router.
turn of DCHP server in the WI FI router and make its ip address one more than the cable modem ip address.
make sure subnet mask is the same in both devices
Make sure DHCP server in Modem has leases above 20 to allow other devices to use 1 - 19 .
eg 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 for cable modem ip address internally.
make wi fi router 10.0.0.2 or 192.168.0.2 depends on the ip address of modem ?
Gateway address of 10.0.0.1 or 192.168.0.1 depends on the ip address of modem ?
dhcp server leases from 10.0.0.21 to 10.0.0.254 depends on ip address of modem ?
