Sony 52 Bravia XBR4-14months old, picture very white, ghosting

Can see the channels but the picture is whited out, with ghost images. Every once in a while, color picture comes back briefly. The longer it stays on , the more it stays whited out. Tried resetting to factor specs, played with picture settings, power save settings....nada. Repair guy opened it and said 4 circuit boards need replacing, he did no diagnostics! Telling me $1,800.00 to fix! HELP!! Cable fine on all other TVs, all inputs- same problem

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary

SOURCE: Ghosting on LCD

He may just be giving up too soon. Again, does this happen on every channel no matter what is plugged into it?

If replacing the cables doesnt help, try giving sony tech support a call and see what they suggest. It wouldnt hurt to get a professional opinion. Plus if your warrenty has expired and they offer to repair it at a cost, im sure it will cost less than a new 40" TV

Not sure what country you're in so go to the website below and choose your country then look for their contact email or phone number. I'm sure they will be helpful, thats what theyre there for.

Have your TV model number (usually on the back of the set) and details of the fault handy. They may also ask where you purchased it from.

It sounds like a bad panel or possibly a bad digital board. This board is mounted on the back of the LCD panel. Have it checked by a repair shop.

My Sanyo Vizon 32 inch flat panel has times when part of the picture becomes a "white ghost". How do I adjust?

Actually that is quite a rare case on today's modern digital flat panel TV's. You're not saying where you live, and you're not saying if you have previous issues on older TV you had before digital, and (again) you're not even saying whether you're on a hill or deep into a gorge. No TV has ghosting these days, but if you're living in an area as above, go see the TV people and they will probably recommend a set top box. But that isn't really necessary if you have a modern flat screen TV because most of these TV do two things, they give you a crystal clear picture or they don't. Digital TVs have a channel searching system that does the searching for you, and, as the case may be, these only pick up the best channels that give the sharpest picture. Anything that is of poor reception they ignore, so you're actually missing all the channels available because of this ghosting issue. AN there is nothing to adjust on the ghosting, snowing and vertical or horizontal bars, etc. These issues are things from the past, e.g. old analog TV's.

Sony bravia 52 kdl xbr ghosting

Michael, does the ghosting go away of you tap the set? Or if you turn off the set and let it cool off and turn it back on, is the ghosting still here? One of the most common causes of ghosting or double image problem is due to a defective LCD panel tab. Sony's are known for this problem. I would recommend getting a diagnoses done on the set to be sure. If it turns out to be a LCD tab problem, the only true fix is to replace the panel.

With HDMI there should be no ghosting. And being a Sony Bravia it should be no ghosting. My 52" Sony is great.
