My Kenmore Sewing Machine's needle is locked down

My Kenmore Sewing machine was working great then just stopped. Inside the machine lots of thread was stuck-not in the bobbin area but in the top. The removed thread was black-my sister was using pink to sew with. After oiling it and cleaning every where I could reach it still is stuck with the needle down and the feed dogs are not rising up to where they belong. I have checked that they have not been "dropped". When I disengage the needle for winding the bobbin the motor works fine. Any ideas of what to try next?

Best suggestion try inserting new needle. cotton up the top suggests needle problem or incorrect top thread tension, this would effect the feed dog. Because thread is black and most recent use was with pink, the problem thread was already there perhaps in cavity above bobbin but below throat plate. I have had this happen and nothing will move, untill needle released. The bobbin holder tension may also need adjusting after the knots of black cotton are removed.

Testimonial: "The thread was in the top of the machine-like above the needle. It was behind where you thread the top thread through to the needle. I have taking the machine apart as far as I possibly can and it still in not working. Thanks for the advice-I am going to go try a new needle just in case."

SOURCE: Fabric not feeding and jamming occurs

When this happens it is because the thread tension was not right so it gets stuck under the bobbin case and the feed dogs. Use a bigger lint brush and take out the bobbin casing and clean out the shuttle. When you rethread pull slightly on the thread before you feed it through the needle. This will make sure the thread is properly in the tension discs.

SOURCE: can't wind bobbin kenmore 16221 sewing machine, no manual

On the right side of the machine there is a large knob at the top. Pull that out and you can wind your bobbin. Don't forget to push it back in so you can sew :)

SOURCE: Kenmore 158.1703 sewing machine - needle not going up and down

The machine sounds like it has threads caught in the bobbin area thus locking the machine up. Check in there and maybe you can pick them out with tweezers. They may need to be 'softened up' with a little oil before you can get them out!. also Please push the bobbin winder back to the left position and it will release the bobbin winder. Then you should be able to sew. If the needle won't move, you will need to tighten the turning wheel on the right side end of the machine. This should move your needle. Then you should be set to sew.
------This will help. Thanks please keep updated.please do rate the solution positively .thank you for using fixya

Kenmore 117-552 needle is not catching the bobbin thread. the bobbin is in correctly still isn't working. How do i fix that ? I need images to know how.

Try a brand new needle. If that doesn't work, most likely the machine is out of time. Search for sewing machine timing. Lots of web sites and videos.

How to thread kenmore sear roebuck sewing machine model 158. 1789181 got at auction no books

Sears carries a lot of manuals for their machines, although usually not free. In the meantime, there are many threading videos that demonstrate machine threading. Machines of similar models will thread similarly.

Probably best to raise the presser foot when threading so the thread will seat in the tension disk.

Before trying to sew, be sure to oil your machine with fresh, good quality sewing machine oil. Open the top, the side near the needle bar, and turn it on its back to get the underside. Place a couple drops of oil every place that metal rubs on metal. Adding hot air from a handheld hairdryer will make the oil effective quicker.

Be sure to install a brand new needle and use good quality thread--not old or bargain bin variety!

On the top left, there is probably a push button. This is the presser foot pressure adjustment. When the machine is stored, this pop-up button should be released (press down on the outer ring). Being stored with the pressure full on will eventually compress the spring that provides the pressure. Also, be sure to store the machine with the presser foot in the down position (preferably on a piece of scrap fabric). Avoid running the machine with the presser foot in direct contact with the feed dogs as this will wear the feed dogs and also create grooves in the presser foot.

Kenmore 385 #3 thread breaks

Try removing thread #3 from the tension altogether. If this doesn't work, then try using a different spool of thread. Some break easier than others. If this doesn't work, try rethreading your serger from the the beginning. Upper looper first, then lower looper, then needle. Test on scraps.

I have a Hyundai 8 stitch sewing machine and have great difficulty sewing with it. The thread keeps bunching up underneath and misses a lot of stitches. I have followed instructions, both threading up

here is a suggestion for the skipped stitches
Skipped stitches
1. The needle is not inserted correctly
Remove needle & reinsert needle( flat side towards the back of machine)
2. The needle is damaged
replace with new needle
3. The wrong size needle is being used
Choose a needle to suit the thread & fabric
4. The foot not attached correctly
Check & attach correctly

and since it stops with a crunch,, I suggest having the machine
checked to see why that happening

The needle threader has stopped working

Check you needle size. On my machine the needle threader does not work with the smaller needles, 9/65 and 11/75. The eye of the needle appears to be just short of the hook on the needle threader. I have no problems threading needles in larger sizes.
Good luck,

How do I thread it

Follow the thread from the spool through the first thread guide at #1 straight down to #2 and up to #3 (make sure that the thread is through the take-up lever (silver hook) at #3 from three you will bring the thread straight down to the thread guide that is to the left of the needle. Thread the needle from front to back.
