or contacts for battery are rusty
or contacts bent flat and fails, re-bend them back

Could be a coincidence, however, start with the basics. Check your fuses. If you had the work done and you disconnected the battery, the radio just might need to be reset. Check your owners manual for information on resetting it.

A simple problem to solve at last!!!

Inside the battery compartment you should find a switch, which indicates Recharge/Normal, make sure you select recharge if your using these batteries, otherwise no charging occurs.

If this does not work, take out the recharchables and select normal on switch, place fully charged normal batteries into the compartment, making sure you put them in the right way around, close the flap and turn on the radio, if this works, then your battery switch is faulty, however, you can get lithium ion batteries, which will last longer than most other high duty batteries.

The cost of getting these radios is not worth the money, unless you are technically minded and buy the repacement switch and repair it yourself.

Otherwise try all of the above, and remember, when charging batteries that are rechargeable, never leave the radio on, as this can wear out your batteries quickly.

That is Correct. After the 3rd Incorrect Entry, It is in Lockout Mode and has to be Reset by a Dealer.

the only other thing i can think of is that when it says enter single disk only that you do so to a point don't let it go all the way in
this may make the cd player think there is a disk in there

If you're talking about the Anti-Theft Security code for your radio, I'm fairly sure that only a BMW Dealership would be able to retrieve and reset the radio.

You could also try disconnecting the battery terminals for 10-20 minutes, and see if it resets.
