Hi,

with HP the recovery console activation should just be F11 without the CTRL.

If your recovery partition does not work, or is corrupt/missing then your best bet is to either order the recovery discs or take it to a local tech that may have access to OEM discs that can be used with the license key on the machine to reinstall the operating system.

CTRL + F11 Doesnt work on my Dell?

Do you get a prompt to press CTRL F11 at startup?
What prompts do you get? You should be prompted to enter setup or hit F12 (I think) for boot options. If you are not prompted to enter system recovery, then you might be out of luck.
If the computer was refurbished, it is possible that the previous owner reformatted the drive and wiped out the recovery partition.

The question I would ask is why are you trying to do a system recovery?
Can't you just uninstall the stuff you don't want?

My hp mini netbook can not detect the usb ports. How to I reset this computer to its factory defaults? should be a magic key combo during bootup like on the Acer netbook, I hope? Paul

Try this...right before it boots up hit Ctrl key-F11 key. This works for my dell PC. Restores setting to factory default. It may work for you since it's same vendor.

Want to reset to Factory Default

When the computer is just starting up, press the 'delete' button. That will take you to 'setup'. Go thru that to find your 'reset to default', it may be in more place than one. It would be really good if you could get the install disks for your computer, then you could do a re-install of Windows. That will get rid of everything but Windows, so if you want anything else, you will need that disk too.
