Aprilaire 700 water never shuts off

Aprilaire 700 installed in 2005. Last year some flakey issue with water [seemed way too much water was flowing], so I just used the water on/off valve to regulate due to time restrictions I had. I figured it was a bad solenoid, so I bought a new solenoid this year, now here is what happens. Even when the furnace and humidifier is off, water continues to flow into the AprilAire 700 tray, regardless. If I turn on the furnace and turn the heat up I can turn the knob on the humidstat and hear the clicking, however the water flow never stops.

One comment to add, last year I removed a electric Trane Air Cleaner we had installed beside our furnace. That was wired as well. Is it possible my AprilAire 700 wiring needs to change because I removed this?

The float may be bad or sticking allowing water to run continusly even when unit is off.

Testimonial: "Bryan how do you check the float? seems like the water flows from the water tank, copper tube, through strainer, solenoid, up through hose at top of filter pan."

Bryan thanks again for commenting. I found the solution. I looked at my old solenoid and the new solenoid. Here the water inlet is on the opposite side on the new solenoid. So I had to switch the water inlet to the other side.

SOURCE: aprilaire 600 humidier: water continuously runs

sounds like you may have it wired to a continuous power source vs one that shuts off with the furnace. The most common wiring is red to C & white to W

SOURCE: Aprilaire 760 Humidifier water continues to run

You need to determine whether the problem is in the solenoid or in the furnace electronics. You could put a voltmeter on the solenoid connection to see if the furnace is still holding the solenoid open after the blower stops. This will tell you whether it is the solenoid or not.

SOURCE: Humidifier control .

if humidifier was wired into thermostat circuit for power instead of seperate transformer , this can happen. you need to see if you voltage going to the solenoid valve. if you do , and it isn't opening, the valve is bad . this is assuming that it is using a # 50 relay to come on only when the fan runs . . make sure the water valve is open

SOURCE: Aprilaire 600: water only runs in "Emergency" Heat mode

When your unit is on normal the outside unit works and the inside only the fan runs. your heat pump does not remove any humidity when it operates so the installation cotractor did not wire it to operate then. you can change the wiring on the humidifier to operate all the time by wiring it to the fan (g) terminal then it should work just turn it all the way to the lowest humidity when you are in cooling mode.

SOURCE: water keeps running into humidifier even furnance blower is not

This sounds like, the 550 transformer is not connected to the blower motor power connection (in parallel)

Aprilaire 700 draining water even when blower is off

Hello, if the blower is off and the water keeps flowing most likely the solenoid valve is bad and must be replaced.

My aprilaire mod. 300 seems to release an excess amount of water through the drain tube. it waste a lot of water.is there a fix?

This is typical especially if there is not much air flow across the humidifier. Make sure the fan is running in the humidiifier and the core does not need to be replaced. Sometimes I have had to turn the water valve back a little to cause less water to go through to conserve that wasted water.

Has been working well for past 5 years and now the water no longer flows, you can hear it click on and fan runs fine, will not run water in test mode

May be an issue with the solenoid valve. check for voltage at the valve. if there are error codes check the owners manual for cause. I am providing a link to the manual if you don't already have one. the last thing to check would be the control itself. the control and the solenoid valve are the 2 main items for the unit. hope this helps.

Aprilaire 700 using too much water-------

There is a small oriface that is installed next to the solenoid valve. It sounds like this oriface is missing. It reduces the water flow through the humidifier when it is working properly. You should be able to disassemble the solenoid fittings to check and see if the oriface is in the water line. For a "temporary" fix regulate the water pressure down by closing down on the saddle valve.
Good luck

Aprilaire 700 never shuts off

Thanks for your question,
Sounds to me like you have a bad solenoid valve in your Humidifier, this will need replaced, the solenoid is supposed to open and close when there is a call for humidity only when the furnace is running, then when the proper amount of humidity is sensed by the humidistat, then will it shut off, with the solenoid not working it will let water flow through like an open faucet, the solenoid is the componet that the 1/4in copper tubing connects to at the humidifier, has two wires running from it, you will need to shut the power off before changing this out, also shut the water off at the valve at the other end of the 1/4in copper line, or you might get soaked, please be careful when installing the new solenoid, making sure the water line connection is secure, or you will have leaks, hope this was helpful, please leave a rating, thanks again for your question,

What should my humidifier be set at for the winter?

Hi, Jennifer:

I'm no expert, but those who are seem to agree that the first thing to check is your evaporator panel. Aprilaire recommends replacing it annually--so if you haven't replaced it recently, that would be the first step to take. Next, check the power supply to your Aprilaire unit. Turn the humidistat to 0%, and then turn it slowly back toward 35% until you hear a click at the unit. If you don't hear a click, you'll want to check that the unit is in fact getting electric power (you may want to get an electrician or furnace tech to do this). If you do hear the click, the next thing to check is whether you have sufficient water flow to your Aprilaire unit. On mine, I had to adjust my water supply saddle valve, as well as the inline valve on the discharge side of the solenoid (see prior post from this morning)--and this seemed to clear the lines and restore water flow. Once you achieve proper water flow, you will probably want to set your humidistat at 35% for winter temps of around 20 degrees F--but be sure to adjust it downward for colder weather. Comments, anyone?

Lous noise in the furnace when aprilaire 700 on

I have had the same problem , off and on, on my two 700 units for over 4 years. It is caused by water hammer which results when a water solenoid valve closes quickly under pressure. Refer to your owners manual or get a copy of it off the internet. Note the areas where they tell you to remove and clean the inline water strainer and the inline orifice restrictor. These are VERY small components and can clog up easily so they need to be cleaned per the manual. While cleaning them won't totally eliminate the problem it has helped mine with the noise. You really need to have a qualified person, like a plumber, install a small, water hammer arrestor in the inlet line. The trick is to be sure it ends up parallel to the water line flow and not perpendicular to it.... a common mistake. If you are not qualified to work on solenoids and piping, don't do it......it will end up costing you more to repair your mistakes. Good luck
