Remove all speaker wires, than start adding one speaker ata time. after every speaker you attach, turn the reciever on, (meaning you attach first speaker than turn it on, if OK turn it off than attach second speaker than turn on).
One of your speaker is cross-over and when you reach this particular speaker, the reciever will turn off with a loud thump. you have to change the pos and neg wires of that speaker.

Good luck

Read the manual. You've either got crossed speaker wires, it's overheating, or it's a more serious problem. The same just started happening to mine, so I'm taking it in.

Red power light blinking on my denon avr 1907, tried reset procedure, no speakers hooked up now and it still goes from green light to blinking red light and shuts off...Any clues?

This is a protection mode. The receiver protection circuit detects an internal problem like missing power supply voltage or blown channel and shuts down the receiver. You need to bring the unit to a repair facility.

Whenever I start playing on my xbox or playstation, the receiver will shut off (the red light is blinking around the power button). Once I hit the button, it stops and then I can turn the receiver back...

does it only shut off on high volume or a loud noise?

It's the amp tripping to protect itself.

look out for a shorting speaker wire or faulty speaker etc. disconnect each in turn to find out which

I got the same problem with my Denon AVR-2105/885

Your receiver is going into protection. The first thing to do is disconnect all speakers at the receiver. Unplug the power cord, then let it set for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and power it on. If it stays on, you have either a wire shorting out at the back of the receiver, something that has pierced the speaker wire en-route to the speaker, a wire touching the other at the speaker or a blown speaker.

Speaker wires should only be trimmed about 1/2" bare at the terminal and make sure you twist the braid so it does not fray. Then connect speakers one at a time, testing the receiver power each time until it either shorts and cuts out, or, you have solved the problem. Hope this helps. When I turn on my receiver, it automatically turns off and the power button flashes red. Prior to shut down, the receiver display notes "Tuner Ext. In" What's the problem? It has worked p

Protection circuit turns off the unit because of critical conditions- wrong power supply voltages or one of the power amplifier channels is bad. First, visual inspect the power amp board near the heat sink for burned resistors, test outputs for a short. If there are no problem you may try to turn the unit on and you have several second before it shuts down to check power supply voltages and power amp output voltages and bias, then ... Denon AVR 886 only shows analog input

Are your speakers able to handle the 886's power. I have the same reciever and changed by speakers as the Denon would turn off instead of frying the speakers.

As for the digital, have you used the option to change your audio feed and video feed. (for example - I'll show photos through the front input but use the CD -digital for music. Maybe the audio feed is locked onto an analog input. Just a suggestion.
