The error code should describe the problem. Since you didn't post the error message, look it up here:

SOURCE: acer aspire 5572 problem

your problem is called BSOD (blue screen of death).
many thing can cause this problem.
most common thing that cause BSOD are Operating system, memory and harddrive.
sometime motherboard+cpu can cause BSOD too, but not as often as memory+hdd+OS.
you should re-installed it first, if you still have BSOD,
ask your technician to check hdd and memory, if they can check motherboard + cpu, it would be good for you,

SOURCE: my laptop show blue screen

It sounds like it is time to reinstall Windows.
RIght after power on, tap either the F5 or F8 key (not always the same) to see if that will pull up a short text menu with different boot possibilitiesm, one of which might be 'Recover.'

SOURCE: lenvo blue screen error message when computer starts up

Please try to unplug the laptop from power and remove the battery for over 10 seconds. Then start it up again. There are other things we can try if this does not work.

The laptop stays on for few minutes and then it turns itself off but before it does that, it shows a large blue scree and some large white text, the text flicks a little but fast to the point where I can...

First of all Turn of your laptop.
Now this time when you turn on your laptop start tapping F8 Key on you keyboard when you Toshiba logo. Tap F8 key for at least 5-6 times.
You will get a Windows Advance Option Menu. You will see lot of options over their written in white text. Your mouse will not work on this screen. Use UP and DOWN arrow keys on you keyboard and highlight Last known good configuration. Once highlighted press enter on it. See if you computer boots. If it boots try doing a restore.
If it doesn't boot.
Turn off your computer and then turn on your computer. On Toshiba Logo screen tap F8 key once again and go to windows advanced option menu screen once again and this time hightlight Disable automatic restart on system failure. Now when you see Blue screen coming up on your computer once again your computer won't restart. Now you can write down the information to trace out the blue screen that is occurring on your computer. Write down the Error code which will be in form of STOP 0x000000XX, you find this error code somewhere at the bottom of the blue screen.
Once you get the reply here, we will see what we can do.

Could you please provide me the exact error message?

However to stop the system shutdown first follow these steps.

Disable automatic system restart.

1. Restart the computer and press the f8 key to open the Advanced Boot Options menu.
2. Select the Disable automatic restart on system failure option.
3. Restart the computer to accept this change.
Then go to safe mode

This problem occurs after a memory dump file (error log file) is written by Windows XP. Because the memory dump file flag not reset in Windows XP the memory dump file will contiue to be written every time Windows is restarted.

1. Restart the computer and immediately press f8 repeatedly. Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and then press enter .
2. Click Start , right-click Computer , and then select Properties .
3. Click Advanced system settings , grant permission to continue if prompted, and then click the Advanced tab.
4. On the Advanced tab, click Settings
  1. In the Virtual Memory section, click Change .
  2. For Paging file size for selected drive, click No Paging File , and then click Set .
  3. Click Yes after the following warning appears:
If the paging file on volume X: has an initial size of less than xx megabytes, then the system may not be able to create a debugging information file if a STOP error occurs. Continue anyway?
(X is the drive letter and xx is the amount of RAM installed on your computer minus 1 megabyte.)
  1. Click System Managed Size .
  2. Click OK four times to return to the Windows Desktop Screen and then restart.
For more information plz check the below doc from HP.
I hope this will definitely resolve your issue.
If not plz get back with the exact error message so I can give you better solution on this.

Blue scren on my laptop

You can configure Windows not to automatically reboot when a System failure happens (Control Paner -> System -> Advanced tab -> Settings button).
That will allow you to write down the details when it happens again. To solve a BSOD error, you really need to check the error details and analyze the stop error code and other details.
