My app on facebook says to update facebook when I tap on install now nothing happens

You download the Facebook Application (App) from the Play Store. Here are detailed instructions:
First Method:

1. Start at the Home screen.
2. Tap the icon that is a circle with six spots in it to show all apps.
3. Find the Play Store icon. The icons are alphabetically ordered. Play Store will be with the other P apps. You may need to scroll the apps page to get to the Ps. Place your finger on the screen between icons and drag to the left or top.
4. When you find the Play Store icon, tap it.
5. In the search bar, type Facebook, then tap the magnifying glass icon.
6. Accept the download.

Second Method:

1. Open Chrome (or Browser if it's installed.
2. Type Facebook, to navigate to the Facebook web page.
3. The web page will recognize that you are visiting from a tablet and will offer to install the app. Tap that link.
4. You will be taken to the Play Store and the Facebook app will be installed.

It sounds like your display settings need to be adjusted or your browser is damaged. Try another browser like Firefox or Google Chrome. You can get them at

Delete/Uninstall the app. Download it again, and install it.

The best advice that I can give you is to actually DELETE the "Facebook" app from your phone. If You have the "Facebook" mobile app installed on your phone, here/s how to DELETE/REMOVE it.

1. Tap on APPS.
2. When you find SETTINGS Tap on SETTINGS (You are NOT looking for Google Settings, You are looking for the actual system settings which is labeled as SETTINGS in your APPS menu).
3. Tap SETTINGS
4. Scroll down until you see APPS
5. Tap on APPS.
6. Scroll through the list of apps until you find the Facebook Mobile App.
7. Tap on CLEAR CACHE
8. If there are options to CLEAR any other files then be sure to click on those options as well
9. FINALLY click UNINSTALL APP
10. When the app finishes the uninstall process RESTART YOUR PHONE.

NEXT TIME YOU GO THROUGH THE APPS THAT YOU HAVE INSTALLED ON YOUR PHONE, THE "FACEBOOK MOBILE APP" SHOULD NOT SHOW UP IN YOUR LIST OF APPS THAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE INSTALLED ON YOUR PHONE.

Try visiting Facebook from your mobile device's Web browser and it should automatically offer a mobile app for your phone.

This has nothing to do with your hotspot, the problem you are facing (processcom.facebook.katana) is caused by your phone, I hope you also posted your phone model so we can help you much more. but depending on your phone and Depending on your Operating system,
Try going to your application,
tap settings (it is a gear like icon), from your settings,
Tap application manager (JB4.1 & 4.2)
tap the more/general tab (JB 4.3), then tap application manager,
from application manager, navigate to downloaded, (programs downloaded and installed)
scroll down to your facebook app, tap to open it,
once open, tap clear cache, and clear data,
reboot your phone.
once your phone rebooted normally, tap facebook application, and re-enter your username and password, make sure to enable sync, try also checking facebook app settings if it has the option to sync with wifi, if yes, make sure it is enabled.
