SOURCE: Nikon D40 will not flash

The lightning bolt icon in viewfinder blinks when flash is not ready, this can happen if flash doesnt pop up all the way, or if flash strobe tube is bad.

SOURCE: nikon d40 flash won't fire

My d40 did the same thing and the guy at Wolf Camera said a sensor is bad. The falsh was up but every time I focused it tried to pop up the flash again but it would not fire.

I had 2 options. Send it off for 8 weeks to Nikon at a $240 minimum or buy a flash attachment for $100. I chose the $100 option.

Sca 346/2AF M don't recognized on Nikon D40 like TTL

Film Cameras were NIKON TTL Nikon Digital Cameras are I-TTL. These two systems are not compatible. Film cameras did the metering in real time. When enough light struck the film the flash was turned off. With I-TTL the flash fires a quick flash and the image is quickly analyzed and the flash fires again to take the photo. With digital it is delayed and it is NOT in real time. The camera only looks at a few pixels to make the analysis fast. I hope this helps

Is a Quantaray QF30 compatible for a Nikon D40 camera?

I bought this flash on craigs list today for about 30 dollars. I did research and as long as the flash you buy is a nikon HOT SHOE mount it will work. (Look on the bottom of the flash) it will say Nikon i-ttl. I am using it on my D40.

Nikon d40 fully damaged?

My standard response: Contact Nikon USA (if you're in the US) and ship them the camera and lens. This will cost, which they will estimate up-front, but it is the absolutely best solution to the problem. Anything else is a hack job!

Nikon d40 flash

If the flash doesnt work in Auto mode when its needed and when you switch it to manual, then you need to send the unit back to Nikon to be repaired. Its a known issue with the d40 that the internal flash breaks.

External flash problems

Sounds like the external flash is being triggered by the pre-flash.

On the D40 set the flash mode to manual. On the F65 set the flash mode to Standard TTL.
