How to Remove Replace and Install Your Gateway MX series MX6428 Laptop Hard Drive

1. On the bottom of your Gateway MX6428 laptop, find the hard drive door to access the hard drive.
2. Remove the Screws.
3. In this step, you will either need to pry out your Gateway MX6428 hard drive caddy, or simply remove the door.
4. Once the Gateway MX6428 hard drive is removed the laptop, you need to remove the hard drive caddy. There are usually four screws to remove from the caddy.
5. Simply Insert the new hard drive into the caddy. Place the screws back in. Install your new Gateway MX6428 hard drive.

It sounds like you have already tried everything I can think of. I would be looking at the actual drive and maybe considering a replacement.

remove the optical drive useing a star screwdiver, clean the contacts and put it back again, it shout work flawlwssly.

Almost any slim CD/DVD will work. Remove the adaptor from the end if the one you have (if it has one) and put it onto the new.

Optical devices problems are common on this laptop models, if you need a final solution you will replace your optical.

I had this same problem and fixed it. In many cases there is NO NEED TO GET an new combo if the old one isn't physically broken. All you need to do is run an optical drive fix. This fixes the registry filters and should handle your problem immediately.

wel the driver should be the same for all of them sounds like your driver for cdrw is about kaput or shot mite need cleanig or a new cdrw installed.

you should be able to find another optical drive for the computer quite easily and cheaply. Try reinstalling the driver for the dvd. Do not spin your fan with compressed air as you will damage it.

Just bought this CDR 570 and not use yet.

Reading the instruction manual - yes, life experience has taught me some really useful stuff! -

Under 'Discs for recording' on page 7 it says at end of section

IMPORTANT:
To ensure proper working of the set we recommend the use of PHILIPS audio CDR and audio CDRW discs only'
Roughly translated I read this to me - 'don't blame us if the set don't work using other (non-compatible) discs' !!
