Canon PIXMA MP760: Waste Ink Absorber almost full - interrupts printing. Removed/cleaned absorbers. Still "almost full". I found out that there is a counter, versus a sensor, that determines the state of...

I'm curious as to how you cleaned the ink absorbers since they are normally sealed.

Go to the Cannon USA website and search using the terms full ink absorbers and MP760.

Let me know if you still cannot find the answer.

"The ink absorber is almost full. Press printer's Start button to continue printing. Contact the service center." What does this mean?

This means that the counter related to the amount of ink these pads absorb during print head cleaning cycles and from edge to edge printing is nearly at the programmed limit. You can still print by pressing the Start button.

However, you can expect the printer to stop working soon. You can clean out the waste ink pads yourself. This is a bit messy so have plenty of newspaper around. Disassemble the printer from the top. The pads (rubber of some type) are below the cartridge carrier on the side. Pull them out and blot most of the ink off them. Then run under water until the water comes out clear. Allow to dry (you can speed up the drying process with a hair dryer).

Finally reset the waste ink counter in the service mode:
With the printer off but connected to power, Press and hold Set/Reset and then press the Power button. When the power light is lit, continue to hold the Power button and press Set/Reset twice. The light should be green.

Now press Set/Reset 4 times (the light will switch between orange and green at each press). Turn off the printer. The counter should be reset.

Do not reset the counter without cleaning or replacing the pads. You will get ink spreading all over the printer. Additionally, the waste ink counter is set to a value that should be reached near the printer's end of life with normal usage. Other parts may fail soon.

I hope this helps.

Ink absorber nearly full keep gettiing the prompt. Like to know solution.

Hi. I think the problem on that one is the waste ink tank is already full, so you need to clean it or replace the pads on it, because when you are printing or opening your printer it blows little amount of ink to the heads so that it will not be clogged, and that ink goes into the used/waste ink tank. Also after cleaning the used/waste ink tank you need to reset the counter of the printer so that it would print again, you can just download the counter reset software over the internet or just bring that machine to an authorize canon printer technician. Hope this Helps

My canon pixma ip 1600 has a full ink absorber---is there any way to fix this or do i need to buy a new printer-thanks

Try to remove the absorber (wear rubber gloves--very messy) and wash it in hot water and detergent. You can buy the replacement part if you don't want to try to wash it.

How to tell if absorber is really full on MP210

These are the solutions from Canon:

1. Load paper correctly then press black or color button (MP210)
2. Press on/off switch to reset the multifunction device
3. Remove Packing Material MP210 (new printers)
4. Reset ink cartridge MP210
5. The MP210 may require repair

The ink absorber is generally a pad in the bottom of the printer and after a number of passes printing, the counter indicates it is "full", however it can likely be reset and used for a period of time even when "full". The worst that will possibly happen is ink may leak out of the bottom of the printer when it will no longer absorb ink. If you are a bit technical and able to remove the pad, the pad can be washed in warm soapy water, even add a bit of bleach to get it white again works, and reused after the counter (printer) is reset.I am not familiar with that particular model, but I have washed and reused the ink pads on other models of Canon with no problem as well as Epson and HP.

Ink absorber

actually ink absorber is full means you printer inside got small pieces towel
to absorb ink. but Canon PIXMA printers display an error when a certain internal counter suggests that the ink absorber may be full. If you've done a lot of printing, the ink absorber may actually be full and you might need to have it cleaned or replaced to ensure the best printing quality. However, if you haven't printed that much or you have and you just need to print something right this minute, there is a way to reset the counter and stop the error from showing up again

please try go to this website :
http://ij-forum.blogspot.com/2008/09/how-to-reset-ink-level-of-fine.html
the you go left hand side download General Tools (EEPROM Resetter) Collection and install on you cpu.

after download remember to turn on printer before install it.then go to Reset ink counter by clicking Reset main on waste ink counter menu

try this if can't i think you need send to shop for technician to open it and clearning for you....

Waste ink absorber full

Hi ....

This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Do vote if this helps ... Cheers :)
