Check whether the audio is muted by accidental press at remote control button. Enter its sound menu, and check it. If muted, as you know there will be no audio output. If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. Check the system
volume to make sure the volume is not muted or too low.
Ensure the volume control dial on the left side
of the front panel is increased to an audible level.
Plug in a set of headphones to see if there is sound through the headphones.
NOTE: If there is sound through
the headphones, the issue is with the speakers.
Ensure the playback
device is correctly selected .
Select a sound scheme
in Control Panel.
Reinstall the sound drivers.
Check for conflicts
in Device Manager.
Remove all added hardware to see if it is conflicting with the sound card.
Reset the BIOS to the default values.
Use the System
Restore utility to restore the system back to a point when the sound last
worked properly.

Sounds very much like a loose connection from the motherboard audio out to the sound card. The onyl fix for that would be to open the laptop case and physically check the wiring. Not an easy task with modern notebooks. I take it it is out of warranty? If not then your safest option is to return it to the manufacturer ... or visit the outlet that you purchased it from.
Okay, the first place you can check is on the recovery disc if you have one. If not then you can go to the Sony website and under support and downloads you can either let the site scan your laptop or you can type in your laptop model info. The site will then provide a list of all the drivers and downloads available, as well as instructions.
