I have a Sharp R1870 convection microwave oven. When you close the door and turn it on, the light comes on and the fan runs, giving the impression that it is working, however, the turn table does not turn, and it does not heat up. We have discovered that it you press up on the door, something causes it to come on and the turn table begins to turn. Presently, we are using a flat wooden spoon wedged under the front bottom right of the door to make the microwave work properly. Any ideas? Obviously something is not connecting properly, and I would love to fix it.

Also, a sidenote..over a year ago it was shutting off after 59 seconds. It was covered under a home warranty, so I had someone with the warranty company repair it. He replaced the magnetron tube and something else in effort to fix it. After looking it up on the internet, I had to tell him to change the damper motor. It took over a month and several attempts to fix it, and once he changed the damper motor, it worked properly. However, the fan was not blowing out the vents at top. He wanted to come out and change the fan motor, but I told him to forget it, took it apart, and put the fan in facing the proper direction to blow air out the front since it is not vented. It has been working fine since then.

The turn table and fan are connected in series with the bulb,as you have mentioned that you have replaced bulb,so please check again for any loose contact on bulb holder or bulb continuity again.

SOURCE: microwave light door turn table works but does not heat up food

In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron.

Due to the lethal voltages used and produced, I do not recommend that an inexperienced person work on these.

I would recommend that you contact your nearest Panasonic-authorized servicer. You can find one here.

SOURCE: Sharp R1870

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.

We have the applicable service manuals for these models and have uploaded it to our site here and here to help you.

You will need the free Adobe Reader to view or print it.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

If you only need a switch, you can order one from us for $5 postpaid.

Sharp microwave r1870 only runs for 59 seconds

If it consistently runs for exactly 59 seconds, and shuts off, it's probably the control panel.

If it runs approximately that length of time, you might have a defective thermal protector on the magnetron, or the magnetron is running too warm for some reason.

Not heating

If the door sensor thinks the door is ajar, it prevents the microwave from heating as a safety precaution.

I found with my old microwave that tapping on the closed door, right at the latch, with a little bit of force would convince the sensor the door was really closed.

My Sharp Micro Convection Model R1870 fan behind the touch panel keeps running for 50 seconds after the microwave turns off,. this is not the vent fan. it also runs for 50 seconds when you turn the...

If the fan seems to run even after the microwave had completed the cycle, then it is possible that the drive to the fan is having a time delay. Also it has to be made sure that the magnetron has been cut OFF power or else it is not a good situation. You will have to remove the control panel and check on the board, check the drive to the fan, since the processor cuts off the fan and magnetron at the same time the fan circuit must be traced. Look to the circuit after identifying the fan wiring and back check using a multimter if you are able to trace. If not take help as this can be harmful in case the microwave works till the fan cuts off. A faulty capacitor on the board can create this time delay.

Sharp 930 AK Convection/Microwave Oven

When you close the oven door the latches operate a couple of interlock switches that control power. It may be that one of the door switches is bad or out of adjustment. It's also possible that one of the door latches is broken so it's not hitting the switch. There should be two door latches. Are they both there? This oven could be fixed by adjusting or replacing the interlock parts as needed. Because of concerns about microwave leakage from an improper door seal, you should have this oven serviced by a professional.
