I have a Timex Ironman Triathlon Speed + Distance...

I need to replace the battery in my Timex Ironman Triathlon watch (CR 2025). I don't have my owners manual and didn't want to potentially break something. Do I just unscrew the 4 screws on the back or is there a different way to get access to the battery? Thanks for your help in advance

The Timex Ironman manual and website says to take the watch to a repair facility. Nope! Do it yourself!

How to replace the battery in a Timex Ironman watch:

This is easier if you remove one of the rubbery wrist bands.

1. Take note of the position of the metal back cover. You'll need to reinstall it exactly as you see it in order to hear the alarm.

2. Remove the four screws that hold the metal back cover, and pry off the cover.

3. There is a round metal clip that holds the battery in place, covered with a transparent plastic cover which likely says, "Unlatch to remove battery". Within the center of each clip, there's a small opening just large enough for a straight pin to be inserted. A jewelers screwdrive won't work - use a straight pin. Insert a straight pin into the tiny opening at the edge of the clip, and wiggle it. The clip should release. You'll only need to unlatch one side of the battery retaining ring.

4. Gently pry up the batter retaining clip, then pry up the battery. Insert new battery.

5. Replace the clip.

6. Insert a flat blade screwdriver into a slot which has two "electrodes" or pins - they need to be shorted with the screwdriver to reset the watch. Just touch the screwdriver blade across the two pins to short it.

7. Reinstall the back cover but be sure to position the cover so the alarm sounding place ( a small disc attached to the inside back cover) will reside over the sounding spring.

8. Insert screws.

How to reset the Timex Ironman watch after inserting a new battery:

With the back cover off the watch, look for a small oval hole which has two electrical contacts at the base of the hole. If you short these two electric contacts, it "reboots' the watch.

If you want to confirm the watch has been reset, try this: it's a little tricky to do yourself, easier if you have friend to observe the watch face.

While you observe the watch face, have your friend insert a flat blade screwdriver in the hole to act as a short against the two contacts. When the short has occurred, all the digital segments within the watch face will activate at once. (Remove the screwdriver from the hole.) It lasts a few seconds, then a some letters/numbers will appear for a few seconds, then the watch will show MON 1-01 12:00.

The watch is now reset, and ready to be closed, and manually set to your local time and current day.

Getting one side of the the flexible rubber watchband loose wasn't easy, but eventually it came off in the traditional manner (compressing the pin from either end). While working, take care not to cause either of two springs to fall out. I found instructions on the battery cover which said, "After battery insertion, short AC to battery +." How to do that wasn't explained. I found neither hole nor prongs to short, so I simply shorted the battery to the metal nearby using a metal screwdriver. I can't say for sure it worked, but the watch did reset after a few seconds of waiting and worrying that I had ruined the watch. It started working just fine. In addition to the normal modes, there is now an additional one called DEMO. Everything else seems normal again.

Re: Timex Ironman Triathlon 100 Lap Watch No Sound After Battery Replacement

Here's the fix. With the battery in place and the watch functioning (But the screw-on back of the watch off. Duh?) there is an instruction on the flat cap that holds the battery in place: "Press here to reset." (I just fixed mine and I'll be darned if I'm going to mess with it in case I didn't remember the instructions ver batim! ;) What you, me and everyone else has been missing is exactly where the reset "button" is located.

Don't be suckered by simply pushing the red cap. It may click like mine did, but it is not the reset button.

It's no button at all but a little flap of metal, just beside the clasp/latch of the metal cap that holds the battery in place.

Get out the magnifying glass, or the 4.0 readers, a flashlight, and a very tiny diameter (compass/pencil works) piece of metal wire. A large paper clip is too big. Maybe a large sewing needle. It's really itty ***** finiggally (Hope I'm not losing any of you with my technical language...)

Look closely and you will see a stand alone, tiny, tiny! piece of metal that if you push on it, will contact a... contact? on the watch circuit board.

Press the metal contact spring piece to make the contact and that should be it.

Make sure when you replace the screw down cap, that the cap has the circular piece of metal (that acts as the sound board to produce the beep-beep) oriented so that that the itty ***** spring that sticks up from the watch/brains/circuit board, touches it, or no beep-beep!

    Hope it helps.

While following DaveN4EF's excellent directions, I got stuck with the reset. What ever I did, it would not reset.... I took the battery out, put it in again and it worked like new.

Thanks, Dave for the great directions

Insert a pin into the one end of the metal latch and presto in unhooks! I just figured it out.

Just take it to a local jewelery store and they will change it for you for about $10 to $12. Joe

Even after changing the battery, the display fades on a Timex.

It sounds like a short circuit somewhere in the watch. A visit to the authorised dealer sound necessary.

To find your nearest dealer go to "casio.com" click on "support" , then from the menu on the left, click on "repair and service" to find your dealer or service center.
