No wireless connection on acer one notebook

Hi. i dont really own it, my sister just asked me to fix or to have a look on it. i guess the story goes like, they were watching a broadcast, a long broadcast thru the notebook and right after that they werent able to connect it anymore. so it seems that it was working before but lost sometime after watching it. anyways, its windows xp and wireless adapter is built-in. i tried everything that i know of but i still cant figure out whats wrong. i checked the manager and it says its working properly, i click on troubleshoot but nothing happens. i sometimes see the wireless icon and it says acquiring network address. at one time it can see the wireless router when i check the ip details, which is netgear, but not when i click on properties of the wireless icon, but most of the time it doesnt. and when i click on refresh network list i still cant see the network. please help....

by the way, i just found out that when i connect the notebook directly to the modem, the notebook isnt getting an ip address from the modem, it just said "network cable is unplugged" or something like that. so both wireless and wired LAN cant connect to the internet. its running on windows xp.

Make sure the LAN is not set to use any IP address. It should be on DHCP ok. Some times, the WLAN has to be configured to use IP address, so get the addresses of the Wireless Router: IP, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway and Pref DNS and assign these to the WLAN. Only the IP addr should be different by adding one or two to the Router's IP ok. Restart the pc and it will get connected. Good luck

1. Try unplugging the wireless router for 30 seconds and plugging it back in.

or

2. If that does not resolve the issue go to My Network Places, Right Click, Properties ... on the icon that represents the wireless connection, right click, select Disable, once the device is disabled, right click again and Enable.

The second set of instructions are assuming you have Windows XP

Acer notebook sees & "connects"

First question back, is what operating system?? When asking for support it is important to include this information. My fist guess will be that the wireless card needs updated drivers. Plug the laptop directly into your router (ethernet cable). Now go to Acers website there should be a support tab there. Click on it and enter your model number. You will now want to look under drivers and find the one for the wireless card. Download and install this new driver. Hopefully this will work. If not repost with more information about the laptop (example: OS and brand/model of the router). The more information the better.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

Wireless connections are slower, than using the cable. You may have a defective wireless router, or you PC is defective.
1. now in your home are you close to the router, and do you have strong signal strength.
i would take your PC to wi fi spot and see if its faster, if so, i would guess you wireless router is defective.

Hi,

Try resetting the network adapter.

On the bottom right hand side of the desktop you will see the wireless icon, right click on that ans click on troubleshoot problems. This will reset the adapter and assign an IP address for your your PC.

When its done try to connect to the internet.

If this advice does not help please post back.

Good luck.

Wireless connection will not connect coz wanting password

Hi there.
Its asking for the password for the wireless router as it would seem that your network is a secured network.
The password will be on the router unless you have changed it.
