I have the Husqvarna 4D Extra program and I did registered it with Husqvarna. I purchased a new laptop and have my dongle, but misplaced my program cd. I called Husqvarna and they said they no longer have the cd's for the 4D and I would have to upgrade to 5D. My friend also has the 4D program and allowed me to install it until I can get the upgrade. My problem is now, when attempting to install the Hus 4D reader/writer I get a sharing violation message. Will I have to go ahead and get the upgrade now to be able to download to the reader/writer? (Windows 8 NT) I am so thankful for this site and your expertise.

There should be a code in the software booklet that makes the program read your dongle.

I don't have 4D, so this is a guess, but I do use a lot of different embroidery design software programs. That message sounds like possibly the software has not been installed. If you're positive all was completely installed, It might be a good idea to call 4D support for their advice. If you are installing on a new computer be sure the software is compatible with your operating system. If I wasn't writing this on Christmas Day, I would say "Ask for new software for Christmas". Seriously, the proper reply is Keep Looking! If you have registered your software you MIGHT be able to purchase a replacement dongle, but I would not hold out much hope for that. Contact your HV dealer and ask. Mostly, the value of the software is in the dongle and if it is lost then the replacement cost is the cost of the software i.e. lots!. Check your household insurance policy - you might be covered for the cost of the replacement. There are other embroidery software programs that work with the Designer1 machines e.g. Embird and Sew What and these are less than $200 which is way better than $2000.

if it won't recognize dongle, you have a computer issue.
For registration issues in 4D (In for Vista only), go to "user accounts" and turn off user account control (control panel) this helps registration issues from Vista
