SOURCE: maytag upright freezer model MQU1556AEW

I experienced the same problem last week with my freezer. Apparently the change in temperature during defrosting allows the blade locking mechanism to slide on the motor shaft during the spinning operation. The blade pulls itself along the shaft until it comes in contact with the motor mounting bolt. If your freezer just stops getting super cold, but remains cool and you don't hear the fan spinning, remove the inside back panel and check the fan blades for freedom of movement. I almost disposed of the freezer this past week but decided to make one last check of the mechanisms.

SOURCE: Freezer keeps freezing solid

Hi , yes it could be the thermostat but more likely the defrost timer , most parts are replaceable with generic ones , your local refrigeration supplier may be able to assist you with the right selection simply by giving him the model and brand , these parts will not cost more than $100 bucks . if you are competent in checking please follow this simple test.
first turn  off the fridge and get to the back of it , remove the covers and get a good torch to see underneath where the compressor and other components are , now there should be a black object (compressor) with two pipes coming out of it (if there are to small pipes coming out of the bottom and they run back into a tray on top or next to the compressor they are not the ones ) now turn the fridge back on and wait about 15 minutes feel these two pipes , one should be sort of luke warm and the other should be warm to hot , if this is not the case then the refrigerant has leaked and a tech will need to be called if they are, then the defrost timer is faulty in which case it will be located under the fridge and have a white button perturbing through the back wall down near the compressor , once you find this try turn it a full 360 Deg , if the compressor turns off while this is happening thats ok , keep turning it until it tries to turn on again but wait about five minutes before you turn it again to allow the pressure to settle , if the compressor does not shut down then the defrost timer is definitely shot,
I hope this information helps you.
Have a nice day :)

Magic chef freezer model mcuf88w won't freeze

When you thawed it, did you remove ice from it using a metal object. That may have damaged the coils when would allow freon to leak out. This is too coincidental to be a problem itself with the compressor. The t'stat might be the problem. Try turning it off at the t'stat for a few minutes, then turn back on to the normal setting. Keep door closed for 30 minutes and check the inside and see if the walls are freezing. If not, you may have a compressor problem, or t'stat, or relay switch problem.

The freezer side of the unit will freeze until it freezes over and will no longer keep the freezer frozen. The freezer then has to be defrosted so it can freeze again.

Maytag upright freezer with self defrost. The water line freezes.

This sounds like your defrost heating coil has gon bad. Not much you can do but replace it. Please leave a good thumbs up for me for the effort. Pretty sure I'm correct on this one. The Raz Shack

The freezer will not freeze or keep its

Check to condenser coil and make sure it is clean and the fan near it is running when the compressor is on. Check for ice build up in the freezer. If the evaporator coil is iced up the box will run warm. It may be a defrost problem, a dirty condenser, or a refrigerant issue.

I have an Maytag upright freezer.Does it self defrost?if so how does it self defrost?Do you have to leave the plug and hose out all the time? model # is rfu1500aaw

This is not a self defrosting freezer . Remove the plug and hose ONLY when you unplug to defrost . You should defrost when the coils get about 1/4 " of frost (ice) on them . Otherwise , the frost will act like the plastic insulation on electrical wire , not letting the coldness freeze the food solidly .

How come my freezer won't freeze?

clean the coil behind the fridge or under the fridge (where ever they are) and make sure both fans are running, the one in the freezer and the one underneath or low on freon
