The switch has 4 connections , 2 central and 2 on each side, instructions state to connect brown to the central switched terminal but which terminal ( left or right location) does the blue wire fit into. Should this be a direct head to head connection or through the individual terminal?

SOURCE: i have a double switch in my kitchen. One switch

This is a tough one. I believe you may have a 2 way switch for the kitchen lights. Here's a link to a site that has a good description of 2 way switches.

http://2wayswitch.com/2-way-switch-wiring-diagram/

In a case like this, I would make sure the breaker is off and use a voltmeter to determine which wires are which. You can do this by testing the wires for voltage and turning the break on and off (I'm not sure how comfortable you are with working with electricity). You can also check for connectivity by seeing which wires run to the lights. Once you know which wires go where, you can then figure out how the wires should go. I would not want to hazard a guess based on the wire colors only. The voltmeter never lies. Hope this helps and good luck!

SOURCE: Replacing a pull chain 3-way ceiling fan light switch

OK .. the thick black and white are the power for the fan , are there also white wires on the lamp sockets ..??
The thick black wire should connect to the black wire on the switch.
The small black wires connect to the red and blue wire on the switch .. two small black wires each .. that should give you a position for 2 lights , and 4 lights, on the step switch .. but there should be white wires from the lamp sockets connected to the thick white from the fan .

please respond .

SOURCE: I have a leviton combination (2) switch... I want

Don't break away the tab.
It sounds like you have Hot wire connected to wrong side of device.

Electricians don't guess, they test.
Separate wires. Turn power ON.
Test each wire to bare ground.
Tester lights up on Hot wire.

Hot connects to brass screw(s). This will feed power into each switch.
Wires going to Load (lights) connect to each silver screw.

I have to replace the power switch on my Delta Shopmaster 10" radial arm saw. I have the switch, which is a Delta 438010170206S Rocker Switch has (4) terminals. I need to know which wire goes where????

How many wires do you have? The switch is probably a 2 pole, On-Off. If you have 2 wires, connect them to two terminals on one side of the switch (use an ohm-meter to find which terminals make-break). If there are 4 wires, connect the black and white power cord wires to different sides of the switch. Then connect the two motor wires to the two remaining terminals. DO NOT CONNECT THE BLACK AND WHITE POWER WIRES TO THE MAKE-BREAK TERMINALS OF THE SWITCH. This creates a short in the power cord and will trip a breaker.

I want to install a new switch in my Superior scms 10 L miter saw but I need a wiring diagram to put it all back together again.(2 blue,2brown & one grey wire. When I took it apart I did not mark the...

Denis use a meter on the switch. Measure resistance / continuity. Find the 4 contacts that are made when the switch is actuated. There are 2 terminals for blue and 2 terminals for brown. The terminals are paired so that each of the 2 terminals is made when the trigger is actuated. Blue to blue... brown to brown and grey will be the last terminal. It will not matter which side of the switch you connect the wires to as long as you pair up the colors. My concern at this point is the gery wire. If it is piggy backed to another terminal and you disconnected it this can be a problem. I believe the grey wire is for actuation of the brake. If this does not help you feel free to seek other experts. I do not think your going to be able to locate a wiring diagram without the aid of the products service center.

Wiring a generalaire 1042 humidifier to a goodman furnace, when there are no terminals marked hum

24 VAC HUM
The yellow wire connected to the I.D. Blower pressure switch
is powered anytime the pressure switch is closed and provides
24 VAC humidifier control. Remove the yellow wire and connect
the supplied brown jumper wire to the pressure switch
terminal. Reconnect the yellow wire to the "piggyback" terminal
on the brown jumper and then connect the 24 VAC line of the
humidifier to the stripped end of the brown wire. Using a wire
nut or a field-supplied quick connect terminal can make this
connection. The wiring must conform to all local and national
codes. Connect the COM side of the humidifier to the B/C
terminal on the furnace control board (or to the COM side of
the 24 VAC transformer). DO NOT CONNECT 115V HUMIDIFIER
TO THESE TERMINALS.

Here is the wiring diagram.
It looks like you connect the black & red wires on the sides as you state.
The black coming from one 3-way connects to the top terminal on one side, the red coming from the same 3-way connects to the bottom terminal on the same side.
The black going to the other 3-way connects to the top terminal on the other side and the red going to the other 3-way connects to the bottom remaining terminal.

Re-check your wiring. The 2 incoming 240 volt wires from the circuit breaker connect to terminals 1 and 3. The 2 outgoing 240 volt wires going to the load connect to terminals 2 and 4. If it is connected any other way you will get symptoms such as you describe.

The 240 volt timer clock motor is connected internally to terminals 1 and 3, so if you connected the incoming 240 volt wires to say, terminals 1 and 2, then the clock motor is only getting 120 volts. If you inadvertently connected the incoming 240 volt wires to terminals 2 and 4, then the timer clock motor is getting no voltage.

In both cases of mis-wiring stated above, the timer clock motor will start running when the manual lever is in the ON position, and of course, the load will then turn ON.

I have an old york unit model #HICF030506a and just replaced the fan unit but forgot where to connect the 4 wires . I have a tan, tan w/white strip , black , and purple wire. Can anyone help???

Did the old fan use 4 wires or 3 wires. If it used 4 then connect the brown and brown/white to the capacitor. Then connect the Black to L1 and Purple to L2. If it used 3 wires then tape up or put a wire nut on the brown/white wire. Connect the brown wire to the Fan terminal if the capacitor has 3 terminals or to either side if it only has 2 terminals. Look at the motor data plate. It should have the wires labeled on it. Purple should be the run wire, connect it to the Comm terminal of the capacitor if it has 3 terminals or the opposite side from brown if it has 2 terminals. Another wire should go from this connection to L1. Then connect the Black wire which is common to L2. I hope this isn't too confusing. Let me know if I need to explain it better. Also if the motor data plate says that Black is run and Purple is common just adapt the instructions above to the wire colors.
