The power light and PC activity light are the only lights that come on. Send/Receive lights don't blink.

I have cox cable and using a Motorola SB5120 modem. I have lost internet connection. When trying to reset(unplugging power supply & repowering)the modem, The power light comes on then PC activity light comes on. Nothing else happens.

    I too am experiencing problems with my Surfboard Motorola SB5120 modem. Problems started up a few weeks ago intermittently. I've had this modem for maybe 5 years so far. The online connection never kicks in. Charter cable says it's not on their end. I've tried all sorts of things to try to make the modem work again. I've one step from just cancelling my internet service at Charter.

The most easy way to connect to the internet is get a bluetooth connetion (zippys) press the tools find device on the bluetooth on ur phone press pair device and press dial up inthe username put ur mobile number and password mobile number dial up number *99# dial

If the Cable light does not come on and/or the Activity light doesn't turn on, there is a problem with the plant equipment and you need to contact your provider to fix it. It could be a cabling issue outside of the residence or something could be down at the plant itself. This can also happen when the temperatures rise or if there is condensation inside the cable as it causes signal loss and increased noise on the line.

Cannot set up Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem

This usually means something is not correct with your incoming signal. If your cable wire into the modem is being run off an amplifier in the wall this could be effecting your service. If the signal is too strong the modem won't be able to communicate for internet.

You could check the incoming wire to see if it is running off an amplifier. If it is you would need to run a new line that is not on the amplifier. I would recommend comcast coming out to check the signal frequency and make the necessary adjustments.

Recieve and Send lights blinking

Are you unable to connect? The send and rcv lights should be blinking. Make sure that your link light is on and not blinking. Your link light is your connection to your ISP

MOTOROLA SB5120

Turn off the modem for about a minute then turn it on while the computer is connected.
If failed, remove all connections and plug it same way. Check all cables if it is connected snugly.

try to unplug it and the cable for a few minutes, then replug it and see if that helps.

Power Cycle the modem if the 4 lights do not go solid you would want to contact your cable provider to ensure signal is being received properly to modem.

Your modem is not synching. It could be a number of possibilities, and you're going to have to do some troubleshooting to narrow it down.
  • Verify that your AC, Cat 5, & ethernet cables are connected securly
  • Verify that your modem is not in "standby" mode
  • Power cycle your modem
  • Try a different cable outlet
  • Call your ISP to make sure your modem is provisioned and your service is set up for cable internet.
