SOURCE: Clothes dryer doesn't spin

The way most domestic clothes dryers are made, it's usually hard to determine that the heating part works without the drum turning.

But, chances are, the drum belt is broken.

Please give the specific model number of your unit for a more complete response.

Your heating element is going out. Mine did this a few months ago. It is an easy fix. Look up the part online.

Troubleshooting Gas Dryer Problems

troubleshooting-gas-dryer-problems-200x200.jpg
Drum Spins, But No Heat
  • Check the burner and the controls to see if they are faulty. Adjust the air shutter to readjust the air flow. Loosen the screw on the air shutter and move the shutter until the flame looks light blue in color. If this doesn't work, have the dryer serviced. Other problems could be the timer, thermostat or centrifugal switch, all of which can be replaced.
  • Motor On, But Drum Doesn't Turn
  • Replace the worn or broken drum belt that spins the drum. The idler and motor pulleys that spin the belt, the tension spring and the roller that the drum rides upon may also be causing the problem. Try tightening the motor pulley. Have the parts replaced, or the motor serviced.
  • Slow Drying Time
  • troubleshooting-gas-dryer-problems-3.1-120x120.jpg Clean out the exhaust vent, the exhaust paths and the lint screen.Check the door and drum seals to see if they are worn. If damaged, have the seals replaced. Replace the thermostat if it is faulty. Adjusting the air shutter may correct the problem.
  • Dryer Gets Too Hot
  • Unclog the exhaust vent and clean the lint screen. This holds in theheat instead of allowing it to pass out of the dryer. Make sure thatthe exhaust vent is installed properly. Try adjusting the air shutter. If the thermostat is faulty, have it replaced.
  • Dryer Makes Noise
  • Tighten any loose parts that shake as the dryer operates. Replace the worn belt, idler pulley or support rollers. The noise could also be a loose blower that will need to be fixed or replaced. Noise can also indicate that the motor bearings are damaged; if this is the case, service the motor.
  • Dryer Doesn't Operate
  • Check the power cord to determine if it is unplugged or damaged. If the door switch, thermostat, timer, motor switch or start switch is damaged, have it replaced. If the motor-overload protector was activated due to too many clothes in the dryer, let the machine restated cool down for 15 minutes.

My Whirlpool Duet DRYER--the clothes are wetter than when I put them in & there is now water sitting in the bottom. It does have a steam setting, but I'm not using that one. It's 4 years old.

Check your exhaust vent! If you have an obstruction, the steamy air will have no where to go, then your air-conditioning temps inside can cause the water to condense in the vent tube... Even if the vent is just open to the hot summer air and the clothes sit in the machine the difference in temps between inside and outside can cause these symptoms...

Why would my crosley dryer get really hot but the clothes don't get dry

If the dryer is getting hot (the heater element is working) but the clothes aren't drying, it suggests that there is insufficient air flow through the dryer. Remove the exhaust tube from the back of the dryer. With the tube removed and the dryer running, check for hot air (lots of it) flowing out the exhaust vent of the dryer. If there is good air flow, check the exhaust tube for lint build-up or a clog that is blocking the air from flowing through the tube. If there is no air coming out of the exhaust vent with the exhaust tube removed and the dryer running, it suggests that the problem is with the exhaust fan inside the dryer.

you might have a restriction in the exhaust system. check the entire exhaust vent tube/hose from the back of the dryer to the outside of the building for any restrictions. check the outside exhaust vent for any restrictions or obstructions. make shure the exhaust tube/hose are as short and straight as possible any sharp curves or bends can restrict air flow.

    No heat coming from dryer

Operating Thermostat controls heat. There is also a motor centrifulgal switch, in the element circuit, that the motor closes to insure the motor is turning. Try another heat setting. There is more than one thermostat. You may have blown the 'thermal fuse' too, which requires replacement.
It is possible that your element has failed also. There is the timer motor also that rotates the timed contacts in that setting .

Tripped high limit. Must clean the lint filter and the exhaust vent tube and all the way in to the dryer. Hot air exit is restricted.

    Whirlpool dryer won't dry

If your dryer spins and heats properly and the clothes don't dry, then very simply put, the moist air is not being taken away. If your drying temp is adequate, then the problem is with the exhaust. Go to where the air is being exhausted outside your home, if working properly, when you put your hand on the air coming out, it should get damp very quickly. And ALWAYS clean the lint trap after every load!!!!

Kenmore Elite H3 Dryer taking longer than normal to dry clothes

EVEN THOUGH THERE IS WARM AIR COMING OUT THE EXHAUST, IT STILL MAY HAVE A RESTRICTION IN THE DUCT WORK. DISCONNECT THE EXHAUST FROM THE BACK OF THE DRYER FOR ONE LOAD OF LAUNDRY. IF IT DRYS THE CLOTHES O.K., YOU HAVE A RESRICTION SOMEWHERE IN THE EXHAUST.

NOTE: DO NOT USE VINYL OR PLASTIC DUCTING. VINYL IS NOT U.L. APPROVED. PLASTIC PVC WILL ALLOW CONDENSATION TO PUDDLE INSIDE THE PIPE CAUSING A
    COMPLETE RESTRICTION.
