The reversing valve may be stuck or it has a burnt solenoid coil. Also, check the defrost relay accross the contacts with an ohmmeter and see if it's bad. Goodman heat pumps also trip on high pressure. There's a resettable switch on some units with a red button. However, I think the problem is in the defrost circuit or reversing valve. If your electric heat is on, change the board.

Goodman heating system

It really depends on the type of system you have. You will either have a furnace, high efficiency furnace, heat pump system, heat pump with gas or electric back up heat. All these systems operate differently and the problem that you are having could be caused by multiple issues, depending on which system it is. More info will be greatly appreciated. Make sure to check all filters and air flow first before going any further. The system could be over heating and tripping a limit, causing the system to stop producing heat until the unit has cooled back down.

I have a goodman ac/heat pump....worked fine last season...now only blows cold air, even in heat setting....help! thanx

Heat Pumps are not famous for being fast heaters. Give it some time to act. Is yours extracting heat from the air or from a water source. If from the outside air, consideration must be given to the temp of the outside air. It takes longer to warm as the temp outside drops.

Yours could be a different problem of course, but let it have a chance to work before you call the repairman.

Reversing valve wire kills either heat or AC

Your solution is throw that Hunter tsat away and get a good one. You need one with 2 stage heat 1 stage cool heat pump tstat. Heat pump tsta has w,y,o,g,w,rnad w2. Don,t buy one without this one it. I have been in this business 45 years and people are always getting sold the wrong tstat at Lowe or Home Depot. Those guys dont know jack about Tstats. Keep in touch Rus GOOD LUCK. Get the right tstat follow the letter on wiring and you wont have any problem.

Goodman ac / heat pump

I just had a new unit installed and I am surfing for troubleshooting tips too. My unit is doing the same... cools well heat sucks. my problem has been isolated down to the reversing valve... It is constantly energised which means it is constantly in a/c mode even when kicking on the heat strips... We disconnected a line at the thermostat and it is working well as a heater now. You may want to check yours to see if it is actually kicking over into to heat mode... -rob
