Hayward S-180 filter takes 150lbs, S-210 takes 200lbs not familur with the S-200. To change sand you have to remove the vari flow valve on top. You can either unplumb the filter and roll it over on its side and try washing the sand out or try scooping it out upright. Whatever you do dont damage the laterals on the bottom of the filter. When refilling with sand you want to make sure all the laterals are undamaged and in the down position. I always fill the filter half full of water to keep the sand from damaging the laterals while re-filling the filter with sand. Make sure you use pool filter sand and not play sand!

Here is a link for your filter it explains how to add sand to a new filter. Im new to this too i have seen people say to use a shopvac instead of turning it on its side to prevent damage to the laterals http://www.haywardnet.com/products/Manuals/pdfs/manual23.pdf

How do you know if your hayward s 200 is not running right

sand in your pool is a sign that you may have damage inside your sand filter. it is not uncommon for laterals to break during winter months. also, as the sand wears, it becomes smaller and may pass through.
remember that the filter sand is white. if you have sand in the pool that doesnt look like filter sand, you may have a problem with a broken line back to pool. keep an eye on your water level as you will lose water with this scenario

Sand coming into pool from newly installed 220 hayward sand filter. It was recommended by the local pool distributor to add a 50 pound bag of gravel to the bottom and then 200 pounds of #20 sand. Should...

The problem was you didn't fill the tank with water or added the gravel to fast and now the lateral assembly is broken and letting sand into the pool. You'll need to empty the tank and replace the laterals. Add gravel slowly after you fill the tank half-way with water first.

Do laterals in a sand filter move in a circle

Try consulting the users manual for these pool filters. It has a diagram of the parts of the filter and how they work. It should help you out.

HAYWARD SAND FILTER, PRO SERIES: sand is getting into the pool whan the filter is r...

Have you tried backwashing recently? If so, I would first check to make sure that your pool filter is on the "filter" setting and has not been changed. Next, i would evaluate your filter pressure to make sure that it is at an acceptable level. Finally, check your sand. If it is extremely dirty or has not been replaces in a long time, it might be time for fresh, more effective sand.

SAND IN ABOVE GROUND POOL

First, the vacuum should easily pick up sand if the pump is working properly. The sand in pool may be coming through a cracked or broken lateral. If you changed the sand recently and did not prefill the tank with water, then this could be the reason. Plastic parts do fail eventually. Be sure that you perform the rinse cycle aftewr backwashing to settle the sand bed. Instructions on filter tank.

I need to change the lateral holder assembly and bottom screen on a Hayward S-200 sand filter. Will I need to remove the variflow valve or will it just come right out?

You will need to remove multiport valve and remove all the sand with a scoop. Not alot of fun. Think about replacing sand with ZeoBrite filter medium when you put it back together
