Pentax K10D Both LCD screens are blank

I just received the camera back from Pentax repair. They said it was fixed. However, when I inserted the FULLY charged battery and memory card, the same problems are there. All that is displayed is the battery indicator showing a fully charged battery. No other buttons get a response on either LCD screen. It's almost as if the power is not actually turning on. Any ideas? Please help!

After sending it back into Pentax.  I just got a voice mail on Friday saying that when they insert a battery, it functions perfectly.  They are asking if I am using a Pentax battery and whether or not it is charged?  DUH!  In my letter that accompanied my camera back to the service center, I said that the battery indicator says fully charged.  So we'll see what they say next.  They did offer to test my battery for free.  This is easy because I live in the same zip code of the service center. I'll try to keep you posted.

I discovered that it was a defective memory card all together. Bad card. Replaced with a more expensive and reputable brand and no more problems. Yeah!

After taking few hundreds of pictures, both LCD screens went blank. The camera still focuses and appears to snap pictures (although non of the pictures are being recorded). On the top LCD screen there is only battery icon. After switching the camera on, the battery icon appears after about an minute time. The only functionin button seems to be shutter release (focsing and shooting). Any effect with different SD card.

Did you put a memory card in the camera?
My camera did this today, and I resolved it by putting a memory card in, but even when one has been out before it still turned on, so I'm not sure that is the resolution. Did you ever find out what was causing it?

Also, make sure your memory card door is closed all the way. The camera won't operate if it isn't.

Only Pentax DA and FA J lenses and D FA/FA/F/A lenses having an "A" position on the aperture ring can be used with this camera.

The lens you have is HSM DG

My pentax k10d is freezing on after taking 5 photos

This is usually a memroy issue. When a digital camera snaps a photo, it saves it to a buffer until it can write it to the memory card.

Try a different memory card. If this does not fix your issue then unfortunately the issue is with the buffer memory. This might be fixed with a firmware wipe but it might also need expert repair.

When I am taking pictures outdoors there is so much glare that I can not see the picture I am taking.

Have you tried a glare shield, or LCD hood?

A glare shield reduced reflections, whilst an LCD hood folds out and provides "miniature shade" to assist in viewing.

Here's a 2.5" example (for pentax). Generic ones (such as Delkin) are cheaper.

Pentax K10D shake reduction switch broken

Hi,
Repairing the camera is little bit tough for a end user but it can be repaired in any service center as it is a Pentax k10D I will recommend you to keep this camera because this days getting a Japan made camera is as tough as getting water in desert.

Slow to autofocus and sometimes will not focus at all with my pentax k10d slr digital camera with a pentax 16-50 da lens. when I switch to manual focus the camera works fine.

Clean the contacts on the camera body and the lens where they connect with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Cracked viewfinder?

Ok unfortunately this is not a DIY fix on a Sunday afternoon at the kitchen table over a Moheto. Whether its the view finder or the LCD or just about any problem with a camera it should go to a reputable dealer and they will arrange for the shipping and repair. The electronics and mechanics are so precise in these cameras even if you were to change out the physical part the chances of you getting it back together right is slim to none

Crack in Pentax K10D body

First you should only have submitted it for repair after getting the dealer to sign a document detailing all visible defects. Othewise you are just arguing over whether the camera was damaged before sending it away for servicing.

It would be the dealers resposnibility to make sure tha camera was taken care of during the repair, even if the damage was not their fault. It is up tho them to make sure that the repair is carried out satifactorily. They should take it up with their repairer if they have a problem. It should be a Pentax approved repaired for such a recent model, so this should not be a problem for them.

Getting them to sign a description as outlined, will also protect the dealer. (And the repairer) as this will hlp establish that the camera was OK when they sent it to the repairer, but they must ensure that it is delivered to the repairer in the same condition, so if sent by post it is their respinsibility to make sure it arrives in good condition. (Often the repairer arranges whipping though, so that they can ensure that the service is adequate. Trust me, some of the things I get in for repair are applaingly packed,)

To rectify the problem the body panel will need replacing and this will mean the part will need to be ordered from Pentax. It won't be cheap, but that should not be your problem. You did not cause the damage.

This damage alone though should not prevent the camer being used, as this is quite a robust camera designed to take rough handling. That is not however the point.

If you cannot get the dealer to admit responsibilty, then unfortunatley there is little you can do except contact Pentax directly with a complaint. To sell new Pentax cameras they must be a licenced dealer, and Pentax can use this to apply pressure if they think that you have reasonable cause for complaint.

Ok here it is open the camera and re insert the fine lcd ribbon into is holder problem solved. Your camera must have had a sharp knock to dislodge the lcd screen and pulling out the ribbon. Worked for me.
