My girlfriend's Compaq Presario F700 Laptop has recently begun to shut itself off randomly. It has had a rough life, being dropped and cracking the screen, then yoo-hoo in the keyboard. I took everything apart and cleaned it out, but the keyboard was "doubling" keystrokes such as "a" and "z" would be entered at the same time. I removed the keyboard and disconnected it, adding a usb keyboard and external monitor. It started shutting off, but you could re-start it and it would be fine. Then recently it shut down and will not power back up. The fan and hard drive run for maybey three seconds then stop. This happens everytime i try to start it. Any guesses?
Remove your cpu/gpu heatsink, apply a ermal bonding, this will prevent shut off because of cpu/gpu overheating(chipset detects temperature faulty in the firsts seconds of operating your laptop), if this didnt resolve your problem, naybe and issue with your Mobo.
Thanks

Thanks for the tip. However it did not solve the problem. After re-assembly with new thermal paste, the problem was still there. I did notice that it ocurred almost immediately after the hd started to spin. I removed the hd and od to see if maybey they were faulty, but no luck. out of desperation also removed wireless card and RAM. Heatsink fans spins up, then shuts off, even as a skeleton.
Can't get it to run long enough even to get to the compaq screen. Literally runs 3 or 4 seconds then dies.
Mycompaq presario c700 easily gets hot and it crashes always.
