Compaq Presario F700 Laptop power up issue

disconnect your keyboard and see of the beeps go away and then try a external usb keyboard if possible.

Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your Compaq Presario F700 laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the Compaq Presario F700 . This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your Compaq Presario F700 laptop on.

Boot in "safe mode". As it starts up press F8, the computer ask you if you'd like to start in safe mode. Highlight "safe mode" and press enter. See if your laptop is booting up ok .

How have you tested the battery? In my Acer laptop I'm on my third one in 2 years and recently got a 9 cell high capacity one that lasts 3.5 to 4 hours when my original lasted only 1 or 2 hours tops.

Was there any power outage in your area and was the laptop plugged in at that time, if so your Motherboard has been fried, your need a new Motherboard.

I can tell you, screen issues and wireless issues are one of the problems that goes with a laptop that is GOING TO FAIL. In your case, the F700 is the more expensive F500 which was confirmed by HP to be a failure.

First the problem manifests as a loss of the wireless connection. Soon, intermittent failures and random reboots and a HOT laptop will turn into a black screen and an inoperable laptop > ie a door stop.

Go to hplies.com and you will see almost 2,000 users with the same issue. The problem lies with the nVIDIA GFX chip on the motherboard. THE ISSUE IS UNREPAIRABLE. Any repairs will force the laptop to fail again.

This issue has actually landed me in small claims court where I am suing for hte full cost of this laptop because not only is hte laptop defective, nVIDIA admitted it, and HP covered it up.

sounds like a bios problem do you have prob shutting off now and then if so do an upgrade bios flash that will solve problems

At this point I assume you've tried to go into SAFE mode, and into BIOS with no luck. You're right about the overheating but I think the damage is done. If the unit will no longer stay on in any mode or condition then heat has ruined something. First easiest part to check is memory. The check the CPU (most laptops still have a plug in CPU). If neither of these are suspect then take everything off the motherboard, including the screen (I use and external monitor). If the problem still exists then it's time to use a scope.
