The standby light should be on. If it is not, then check the main fuse. WIth the unit unplugged, remmove hte top cover and check the fuse by the line cord. If that is ok, then you will need to check the primary winding on the standby transformer. That transformer has a thermal fuse internally located and that sometimes gets blown due to a power surge. If you do not have the equipment to test this, get a detailed estimate from a local servicer. The standby transformer usually costs arounf $25 or so.

Use a search engine for "Onkyo TX-SR501 manual"??

Hint: retrevo has it.

You might also hunt for the TV manual as IT is a player in the scenario, too.

Might be over heating. Make sure you don't have anything sitting directly on top of it. I even put a little fan blowing outward at the back of my system to keep it cool.

If there is a way to cut and resplice the speaker wires at both the receiver and the speaker connections, try that. A good clean cut with no hanging copper wires is key.

Blank display on a Onkyo TX-SR501

try to connect the receiver to a tv via the monitor out from the receiver to the tv. you may be able to see the OSD (on screen display of your settings) change the function on that to turn on the front display. alternatively look on your remote to see if you can turn up the light of the front display.

if these don't work possible that the light of the display has blown.

good luck

I think what I might do is use an optical splitter: http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Bi-Directional-Optical-Toslink-Splitter/dp/B0002MQGR2, does anyone have any experience with this?
