Before you start replacing drive you need to ask yourself if you are trying to replace a bad hard drive and just want to start with a clean install of the O.S. OR are you replacing your hard drive with a bigger one and wish to keep your installed programs, data and documents. If you want to keep your data and documents you need to know how to save the Files and folders on your computer to a CD, DVD or a USB hard drive. Just replacing the hardware involves unplugging all cables from computer after shutting it down. Then opening the case and unplugging the cables from the hard drive and then remove the screw(s) retaining the hard drive. Remove the old hard drive from the case and replace it with the new one, replace screws and plug cables back up watching that that the connectors are correctly aligned with the key(s) on the hard drive's sockets. Replacing the Hard drive also involves installing the O.S. and all your programs and applications on the new hard drive. You can find a lot of information in the internet about this.

I need the wiring diagram for a gateway sx2855-22ub i unhooked it to replace the motherboard and need to hook it back up

Always take a picture before taking something apart :) The connectors should be labelled and a lot of them will fit in only one location. Barring that, most older wires have a memory; they take a set and tend to bend to where they spent the most time. Unless you bent them up and wrapped them out of the way, just letting them rest in the case should at least point you to where they used to be. There should be labels on the motherboard connectors that correspond with the wiring.

Blank screen on laptop

Please test it:
1. Remove the hard drive and turn on the laptop. If the laptop display BIOS, then replace the hard drive with a good working hard drive,
If it the laptop screen does not display anything, then:
2. Test it using an external monitor.
- If the external monitor blank too, then there is something wrong with your laptop's GPU and or motherboard (you need to replace the motherboard)

Replace hard drive

Most of the gateway slimlines are the same.
  1. When looking at the front of the desktop, while it is standing up right. Remove the back right screws (2)
  2. Slide side panel off
  3. Gently pull up the 3 plastic latches for the front cover panel.
  4. This should allow the front panel to slide off.
  5. Now unscrew the screws attached to the ODD (optical disc drive)
  6. Disconnect the cables attached to the ODD and the Hard drive (HDD)
  7. Unscrew the screws to the HDD.
  8. Now put it back together.

Recovery disk for SX2855-UB10P

At what stage of the installation process do you get the message ?
Which operating system are you trying to load ?
Is there an operating system on your hard drive ?

You have to format your hard drive using a third party disc to erase everything on your hard drive

Restart your computer during the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS then using the arrow keys scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

Note this will erase you operating system you will have to have an operating system disk to load it onto you hard drive or create a partition to load another operating system

Note after you have loaded the operating system you should go back and change the first boot device to failsafe or optimised defaults after windows has loaded

your computer will automatically restart it might restart 2 times one to finish the installation
the next will be because the operating system is loaded and will boot from your cd

Hope this helps.

A techie told me that the reason my Gateway 7330GZ notebook will not power on is a faulty power distribution IC on the motherboard. The part is impossible to find in my part of the globe (Nairobi, Kenya)...

You need to replace the motherboard. This may not be a cost effective solution.
It may be better to put your money towards a new laptop which will be faster and most likely slightly more than the cost of repairing the Gateway.
You can remove the hard disk from the Gateway and put it into an USB hard drive adapter case and then use it as an external USB hard drive for backups and data transfer.

Gateway series 300 with 4000783 moBo, no visual

Gateway are most likely wrong. These Gateway cp's usually have a motherboard failure which stops the cpu socket working, replacing the motherboard is a far cheaper option than buying a new pc, restore windows using my rstore disk which uses your registered version of XP. You could put the hdd in a dell computer, set the jumper omn the back to secondary master or slave of either the primary master ( C:\) or the secondary master. Then copy the files you wnt to an external source or the dell pc.
