Yes I did. One more thing that i did not mention. When I was using origianlly installed vista I also installed an Ubuntu. I learnt that Ubuntu moves MBR to the partition that it is insalled on. Might it be the reason why my recovery partition doesn't start?

  • grze87 Apr 25, 2009

And yes I did try to hit f10 and I was moved to the new screen but there was written only

    [no-execute]

    enter->send                                                          esc->cancel

  • grze87 Apr 25, 2009

If you ask about windows then I installed it on c. For Ubuntu I have made another partition in Ubuntu wizard.

    sony vaio z520n/b
The problem is that most of those drivers from sony doesn't work, but I have got Polish Vista because I am from Poland so I hope that this is the reason why they don't work and I will simply install English Vista again. If nothing changes, then I will have to order CDs

this is what I see when press f10 it's in polish but it means:

Edit Windows boot process options: Microsoft Windows
    Path:Windows\system32\winload.exe
    Partition: 3
    Hard disk: 1e0217
    [ /NOEXECUT = OPTIN         ]

I found that NOEXECUTE is a parameter of boot.ini file. So if I change it somehow are there any chances it will work?

What Sony VAIO model do you have?

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

On what drive did you install, c: or d:?

Ubuntu may be the cause. The recovery partition is set to be accessed either by the Sony Recovery Wizard in the OS or by F10.

The only recourse you have it to format the complete drive which will give you access to the whole drive. Or Partition the drive if you are going to use Linux on it.

Then you would have to go to Sony's site to get the drivers.

Have you tried to hit F10 while the computer is rebooting?

If you go to sony's website and under drivers and support, put in your model number you should either be able to download the recovery software (which wont work if your recovery partition is gone) or order the recovery cds from them for a nominal fee (anywhere from 10 bux to 50 bux depending)...you can also call them to order the cds aswell or find out where you can download the software..usually the easiest option.

well you could change the winload.exe to point to the recovery setup file..if you know where it is...but i believe the option they wanted you to get to using an fkey is the recovery process..i would try different f keys startinf with f12 until one of those gets you into the recovery program..of course its possible that it doesnt exist.

the language version should have no berring on the drivers working or not...aslong as you have the model number and operating system right they should work.

Laptop: Sony Vaio Serial Tag: C3LRMD7Q Model: PCG7133L Need information for recovery disks for the foremention laptop. The OS is Windows VISTA Home Premiun.

Hi,

The VAIO Model VGN-NR498E/S is shipped with Recovery partition in the hard drive. It is required to create the recovery discs as soon as you get the notebook. Using either recovery discs or the recovery center you can reinstall the preinstalled OS in the computer. But, it depends if you has changed the preinstalled OS, the recovery partition will be erased and no longer be accessible.

However, in your case, if you not made any changes to the preinstalled OS, restart the computer and press and hold the F10 key. this will launch the recovery tools. On the next screen, press Enter key. Then you will be able to view options such as "Restore C Drive", "System Restore" etc. There select "Restore C Drive" to reinstall the preinstalled Vista OS in the Computer.

If you have changed the preinstalled OS in the computer, then it is requires to purchase the recovery discs from Sony's parts center:

https://servicesales.sel.sony.com/ecom/accessories/web/productSearch.do?searchOperation=partSearch&searchText=Y8318272A&sessionId=pfBoWO6gh7vj_fseXl4oiMI

The above part is no longer available with them However, you can use the part #Y8318272A to search for the recovery discs with online retailers and others.

Thanks!!!!

Not recovery for Vista after installed Windows XP. Not repair file recovery.

The Computer is shipped with the Recovery Center, a hidden partition in the Hard Drive. Please restart the Computer and press the F10 key when the VAIO logo appears to access the Recovery Center.
If the Recovery Center is accessible, select Restore C Drive to reinstall the pre-installed Operating System, Applications and the Drivers (restore to factory settings).
If the Recovery Center is not accessible, then the Recovery partition may be deleted. In that case, you can contact Sony Accessories and Parts Center from US at: 1-800-488-SONY (7669)to order the Recovery Discs.

Good Luck!
Thank you for contacting.

I am having VGN 23G and it came with Vista Home Premium. Right now im using window 7. The os's is working properly. Due to 1GB of RAM using vista is a bit frustrating . All the drivers for VAIO VGN 23G...

All the VAIO Computers will be shipped with the Recovery partition in the Hard Drive. If the Hard Drive is not completely formatted, you can access the Recovery partition by pressing the F10 key for 5 to 10 seconds when the VAIO logo appears.

If you're able to access the Recovery partition, then select Restore C Drive option to restore the Computer back to the factory settings.
Let me inform you how to check the if Recovery partition is available.

Press windows+R key and type diskmgmt.msc and check if you're able to view EISA partition. If EISA partition is there, then the Recovery partition is available and you can access by pressing the F10 key at start-up.
If the EISA partition is not there, then the partition is deleted, then you can purchase the Recovery Discs for your Computer which may cost $15 to $35.

Hi what is the buttom i press while i turn on my laptop to recover vista vgn cr490 i try but didnt work

Try with F10 key at start up.

Restart the System, tapping the F10 key immediately. This should trigger the System to boot directly to the Recovery Partition, and initiate the VAIO Recovery Center, without requiring the Windows Operating System to load.

In the VAIO Recover Center, select the option 'Restore C: Drive' and follow the onscreen instructions to perform a C: Drive Recovery.

Performing a C: Drive Recovery will erase all the data present in the C: Drive and will reinstall the preinstalled Operating System, Applications and the original Drivers.

Only strts up with the power cord connected, but takes me to a window that makes me pick safe mode, go to the prior set up, o normal estart up tried all but gets me back to that window

It sounds like your battery has died on you. If you start it up and when you can see anything pull the power cord out. if it just dies on you then that is your problem. A replacement battery is $70-$150 depending on where you get it from. It pays to shop around online and even around town.

The rest of your errors should just be caused by windows not shutting down properlly. When you get your battery fixed it should go back into safe mode once more and then reboot properlly into normal windows.
It is possible that windows has become corrupted but not shutting down which means it would need to be reinstalled.
